Description Version 1.0 of the forehead jewel for my Cooan (Sailor Moon R villain) cosplay.

[Reference Photo ]

I sculpted it using Sculpey III polymer clay. To make the jewel appear more realistic I painted it with purple FolkArt shiny paint then sprayed it with a gloss. For Version 2.0, which I hope to complete by the end of this month for AWA , I plan to cast the jewel out of resin instead.

To give the bezel and decorative rim a metallic feel I used silver Rub N Buff.

Well done detailing! It's so cleanly done, very smooth. In case you run out of time for resin, if you paint on one shine mark near the bottom and clear coat it with some gloss spray paint you can use this one.

AWA?! I'll be there! Can't wait to see your costume! Don't see many of the Black Moon Clan, so this will be awesome. :3

Yay! This will be my first AWA cosplaying (I attended briefly last year mainly for the Dealer's Room.) Will you be in costume?

beautiful! Was the jewel really hand-sculped from clay?? Really great job! Looks so pro.
I imagine that version with a clear resin-cast jewel with some dark purple colorant added in would be even more awesome If you use transculent resin instead of opaque one, the crystal/jewel thingy would look and shine very much for sure!

Wow, thanks

I've never worked with resin, so I appreciate the suggestion! That's definitely the route I want to take

^^ Resin is great!!! It can be problematic at first and one needs to make everything through practicing this and that, but web tutorials are very helpful and the results can be very pleasing

Can you recommend a resin mold making tutorial?

there are some great videos on youtube
Often from channels which belong to some suppliers of sillicone rubbers and resin as well ^___^
Please just try putting 'mold making' in the search on youtube, I bet you'll find something useful. Plus, a video is always more helpful in instructing over a regular written description, or even photos, as one can imagine the whole process more closely
