Description Ground shot of the behemoth. The title refers to an army cadence...
"Up in the morning-
before day.
I don't like it-
no way
eat my breakfast too damn soon-
hungry as a hound dog-
by noon"
Lots of steps. Lots of tireing, fatiguing damn steps in life too. Each one sems to take just a bit more out of a person. One at a time at any rate.

It's beautiful! Every couple months I get to see the one in Terra Haute, Indiana (Black Beauty Coal Mine).

Do they all "walk" or just this type? I don't see the huge treads like the one out here.

These machine fascinate me...almost any form of complicated crane does.

Interestingly enough, this dragline came from a coal mine in Indiana. I am not sure where though. The foreman I worked under had been on the crew to initially build it in the 1970's for the coal mines there. It was dissassembled and brought down on over 175 semis. We rebuilt it from the ground up and added about 2,000,000 lbs of steel to it. The crawler feet we enlarged a pretty good bit to distribute the weight load on our sandy soil down here. It does crawl too!

I am glad you liked my pictures. I appreciate all of the favs' and I hope I was able to answer your questions.

I believe this machine may be one of the two Bucyrus 1370 dragline that worked at a coal mine near Petersburg, Indiana. The mine was originally owned by Old Ben Coal Company, and then at some point was run by Kindill Mining before they went bankrupt and then sold the draglines to Florida.

I work at the Black Beauty Farmersburg Mine near Terre Haute where we have a dragline much larger than this one.

Thanks for the information. That sounds like the story I herd. The other one on site is to begin its rebuilding in August or September this year. It is smaller than the 1370 I think though.Hard to tell it is all in parts. lots of parts. I doubt I will be working on that one though due to school but nothing is ever the way one plans.

What do you do there? Mining coal or something else?

Yeah-everyone says they have a bigger dragline...

I like to push start it myself. Hearing it catch a gear is something else-the gears are as big as a humvee and weigh considerably more. gear teeth as big as a microwave.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: damn!

I guess there's no speed shifting that sucker.

I've driven a few 15 speed rigs in my time and I learned how to shift without the clutch. if you do it right you can do it with any clutch driven car: except of course, starting out in first.

But I imagine that can't be done with the dragline.

Actually kind of an ironic term when you think of it.

good to hear from ya.

ps. I don't see no mud-flaps or wire spoke wheels.
How does it do in the quarter mile?
