This is a really great shot.

Lucky you didn't get caught... If I remember correctly (but this was a while ago so stop me if I'm wrong), I believe it's illegal to give money to street beggars. I did it once and was warned that by someone because I was right out front of a police station.

I was traveling in Japan way too long ago, have been wanting to go back ever since. Your photograph shows what I saw so much of while in Tokyo, these 'cardboard people', living in or on pieces of cardboard, underneath bridges, on streets wherever they could find a dry and warm spot

This is a great reminder of many things

very touching, to be constructive: you could try to get more detail into the overexposed umbrella, but i don't know if it isn't burnt in the neg. already. Print this!

bule In reply to once-keen [2006-09-05 20:06:52 +0000 UTC]

i think it is burnt into the negative, but i'm not exactly sure. was shooting in daylight at +2, so it was kinda hard to capture everything.

thanks for the constructive criticism!

yeah, i try to be constructive. maybe you could check my gallery out, sometime next week (don't have print scans, online yet), since im very new to analog, and i don't have a broad audience, it is kinda hard to get constructive criticism. well...

Leica...lovely camera to shoot with! As for the image, other than the scanner mark in the top right corner, it is reality. It reminds us once again that life is not pretty flowers and happy moments with friends but for some it is survival in the purest form of the word. You captured it well. Excellent job.

A friend of mine highly recommends the Delta series films if you are a friend of Ilford. I have some but have not shot it yet...all in good time!

how could you not give something to someone who needs it more than you do?

exactly.. but sometimes it gets a bit annoying.. especially like here in sydney.. they actually have shelters.. salvos stores... the government actually provides a lot of help for them... and yet they still go to maccas and go through the rubbish.. its sad though.. its really sad .. i always wonder what happened to them.. what happened to their family.. especially when i see the younger ones.. i wonder what happened to them, to their parents... why do they end up homeless?

it's kinda disturbing when you go out, spend money and hang around with a piece of metal worth X number of dollars, and a man walks out and asks for two or three so he can get something to eat.

such is life. thx bro.
