oh man my scraps are being updated so much lately, I don't have time to do any proper pieces so I'm mainly doing anatomy studies at the moment. I took a break from them to draw a page full o' Wheatleys.This is fornax's human Wheatley design: [link]

He looks a little too... Idunno... boyish? From his voice he's clearly an "adult" as far as a robotic eyeball can have an age, but this guy looks like... well, a high school student. Not even an upperclassman. He's like the skinny nerdy freshman who's in all the tech classes and on the robotics team.
...Not that that's bad, if I were male I would be that freshman, but it doesn't really fit Wheatley.

I totally get your point! I looked at these sketches myself and thought I made his face a little too chubby, which led to him looking a bit too young. Though personally I imagine Wheatley to look like a 20-25 year old guy, even if Stephen Merchant is 38 it's still quite hard to tell someone's age from their voice, unless they're really old or really young.
It's cool our ideas of what Wheatley look like are so different and I've seen a lot of different human Wheatleys floating about, but overall I prefer the young and slim version of him (even if I drew him a bit too young here :'D).

Yeah, lots of people seem to favor the "neat" Wheatley like you have here. Idunno, I prefer the scruffy.
Yeah, he seems to me to be in his twenties, perhaps late twenties/early thirties? Hard to tell, males have weird aging patterns.

The most popular one I've seen floating about is what I call "meaty Wheatley" like the one seen here [link]
Personally I don't think that suits him so much but the art of him is amazing. If Wheatley were truly human I'd probably draw him as being a bit scruffy, but because he's a core I tend to gravitate to the neat and futuristic look a bit more.

Ah yes, I've seen that Wheatley--I quite like that design, actually. It fits crazy-Wheatley better than it does normal-Wheatley, for definite, but I can sort of see it as normal-Wheatley, too.
For some reason, I've been toying with the idea of giving my Wheatley a darker skin tone. I have no idea why--it's a little weird. (I have heard Indian people with English accents, though, probably cos they were occupied for so long, that's probably where I'm getting it from.) And the less-conventional designs always appealed to me.

I've seen a Wheatley with a dark skin tone floating about actually! I like the idea of an Indian or African Wheatley but people seem to give him enormous blue anime hair haha, not too sure on that. It'd be awesome to see some more non-caucasian designs.

Yup ^_^ The design I'm working on at the moment is Indian in basis, although it's slightly awkward because I give my Portal androids little lights on their foreheads, and with the Indian design it feels like I'm making fun of the bindi.

Oh that's cool! I'd like to see an Indian design- if you ever draw it would you drop me a link? : ) Maybe if you make the lights a bit bigger so they take up more of the forehead it'd look a bit less like a bindi? Or maybe move the light to a different place if you're really worried- better safe than sorry when it comes to cultural things like that.

I can't say I'm a fan, I've got a weird thing against little beards, can't stand them haha. :'D Though some of the fanart for that Wheatley is really impressive.

Oh, that one ^^ I wasn't thinking. That one's more clearly 'android' (with the blue hair an' all), I was imagining a more human design.
That's a good idea, I might give it more of the metal detailing too--or, y'know, I could just scrap it and go all the way human. If I ever post it, I'll let you know!

Ah i don't know if it's an android or just an anime style- there a lots of human characters in anime with crazy-coloured hair after all, and I can't see any ball-joints on him. Who knows :'D
