As I said ~Dr-Mabuse 's, I was partly inspired by a song (Hawthorne tree by Heather Dale) in which is suggested that Vivianne turns Merlin into a tree (it's not always like that in the legends). Thank you!

Ahah. I'm not a specialist of Arthurian legends, and in the versions I read as a child Merlin is enchanted either in a forest, turned into some invisible figure, or in a cave. I followed here what Heather Dale described in her song "Hawthorne Tree":
They embraced, and when they parted there was only Vivianne
And one more tree was standing in the glade
So yes, she's totally a tree hugger!

The character is going to appear soonish, yes, but she's called Nimue, not Vivianne. Not sure you're going to like her, though - she's rather wacky and a counterpart to Morgana. -Oh wait, maybe you will like her because of that

Actually I'm not quite sure yet. I would like her to be the woman who raises Lancelot, because - well, she's Morgana's adversary and Lancelot gets posited against Gawain. But if she's the Lady of the Lake, I need to explain why she needs Merlin's help to develop her powers. Hmm.

I know there are always problems when characters' different version lay one on another and entertwine together. Personally I like Merlin to have an apprentice who steals his powers and imprisons him. There's something mythic in the tale of a young person taking the place of an older one through this second person's own tools. That's why I personally prefer to think of her as Vivianne - no offence intended - Nimue makes me think more or less to an equal to Merlin, not a younger, ambitious usurper. She's to Merlin what Mordred is to Arthur, isn't she?
