Sweet! Pity they killed him off in The Book of Three (at least he was a fuller villain in the Disney movie).

A creepy mix between the original and Disney Horned King.

What was "the original?"Β  I based this concept off of the description in the books.Β

The book was the original.

Ah, okay.Β  I have only seen the Disney movie once, and didn't like it at all.Β  They made the Horned King's actual face the skull.Β  Working mandible and all.Β  He's supposed to be human with a mask.

I didn't like how he was portrayed in the book--simply a big mute with a deer skull for a mask, a red cape and naked arms.Β  That's not scary, that's just plain macho!

What you've done here was truly terrifying.

Mute can be scary.Β  See Michael Myers from Halloween...

And it wasn't a deer skull.Β  It was a human skull in the books.

This is scarier than DisneyΒ΄s version! I love that red clothes and how this contrasts with the dark room. One of the most disturbing villain designs I've seen around here

It is an utterly fantastic piece by the way. I love the use of light and shadow. I also think he's even scarier in your realistic version. Thanks a lot for sharing it!

Wow!

It is the Horned King and he looks just like I imagined him when I first read the books. He sure looks scary beyond all reason. That red cloak, pale skull mask and horns are a killer combination. He looks like he would be ready to destroy anyone and everyone who gets into his way.

You have done amazing job withthis pic. I just love it!

Oh, wow, that looks awesomely creepy. Almost photorealistic.

I notice you're using CS2 a lot now. Do you like it better than Painter? What are the strengths?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Caelkriss In reply to saeriellyn [2008-07-18 17:02:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Figured out a couple new techniques.

CS2 strengths? It's fast. It's a lot more conducive when trying to crank out a really quick sketch.
Do I like it better than Painter? Well, can't really say which I like better. For me, they have different purposes. Painter helps me develop texture that I wouldn't be able to achieve in PS. Kind of that added realism effect.
I prefer to work with both of them together. That way, I get the speed of PS when developing the base painting, and I get the brush qualities when I bring it into Painter. Problem is, I don't have my Painter installed, so I haven't been using it. I was really missing it when doing the fur.
