Description Folded and designed by me from 25cm square orange/yellow duo paper

A paper version of the little claptrap robot from the game, Borderlands. I realize I haven't uploaded anything in a while and considering Borderlands 2 is coming out very soon, I decided to design a model after the quirky little robot.

I suppose I'll walk through the design process. I usually decided what details I would like the model to have to make it recognizable. I this case, I told myself that the claptrap must include a 3D trapezoidal shape body, two thin arms, and a single wheel at the bottom. Roughly allocating parts of a square, I figure I would dedicate two opposite corners of the square for the arms, set the top of the model in the center of the paper, and send the other two opposite corners of the square to the bottom of the model for the wheels. I also felt the eye was a pretty important detail, and was considering several solutions to pull an eye from the paper. I eventually settled on placing the eye at one corner of the square(folding this up to the appropriate position), while the other would be completely dedicated to making the wheel. Several prototype proportion tweaks later, we get the above. Although I did not intend any color change effects, The alternate color for the eye and belly turned out not bad.

I don't think I found an elegant way to do that. I want to say I tried a variation of a tab and slot method but I don't remember!

That is really cool! Good job folding and designing! Is this model folded from a bird base by any chance?

Thanks! His basic structure was indeed inspired by a bird base (Where the center was stretched out by pulling on two opposite flaps). I decided the taper from the head to base was a bit too much, and adjusted some crease angles accordingly. So the final model was made from something resembling a bird base, but not quite.
