Getting a start! Excite. I wanted a slightly different look to this than the auditions. Hope it turned out well~

Between the two images here, I think I've broken my record for the number of redraws for anything OCT-related = D The first one... agh.I just... could not. It's still off. But the second one I am pleased with.

I don't know if I've ever seen anyone that happy to see an ordinary light bulb. Just imagine if it had been a fluorescent bulb.

I may go back and do some writing editing. But I'm looking forward to getting to the next page

Oh and the title. I knew I forgot something in the description. I liked both this title and the teaser title from the list on the group page... so I guess it's a sort of alternate title thing. I liked the two phrases together too.

Interesting. I noticed you have been submitting a lot of these but I hadn't got to reading them until now. So what is this story about?

Thanks~ Basically Aureus is an inventor, and his most important invention/discovery has been stolen, along with his memory of it, and he's in the process of trying to get it back from the Thief, who has set up a tournament of people he's taken things from. It all fits within the overarching plot of #Lost-and-Found-OCT

I saw this when I was looking around your gallery last night, but I hadn't had enough sleep to really give anything justice. This looks really cool, combining writing with illustration. It works well, and from a literary point of view, it lets you avoid having to make heavy handed references to the character being a canine. That and the pictures compliment the writing, and visa versa. I'm not good at giving praise, it shows. But I like this, and I'll be reading more.

Also, what project is this? It looks interesting, having an opponent to work against.

Thanks! 8D I love combining the illustrations with text, so I'm glad to hear that~
It's for , an original character tournament with a pretty interesting premise. The story really starts at the audition, but I think the writing in these later bits is sometimes better.
Thanks for the awesome comment

You're welcome! Illustration can really enhance the text, but most people can do one or the other, never both.

Sounds interesting, though I've never really understood the appeal of OC tournaments like that. I create characters around plots, rather than shape the plot around a character.

You're welcome. Writing is what I do best, so if you want some critical feedback I'd be happy to help.

I'm glad you think so; I've always loved writing but sometimes find writing stories difficult, and I'm always afraid of being a bit deficient in that compared to art. I'm trying to get more practice in for it and this OCT is the perfect project~

Ah interesting. I have a few characters who have sprung up out of plots, but mostly I seem to take the opposite approach and focus on character most of all. Characters are my favorite thing about writing. = )

Awesome, thank you! My writing confidence isn't the best but I'm always glad to improve~ I'll have to read some of your stuff too. ^^

Yeah, it does take a while to find your own style when writing, and incredibly frustrating too. Still, practice is the way you do it, so you're on the right track.

It's a strange distinction, but something you have to pay attention to when writer longer stories. It isn't as concrete as I said, but you've just got to think how the character is going to develop over the course of the story, because of the events they go through. Still, character driven stories are great, and I prefer writing them to plot-driven stories, because with them you fall into the trap of dealing with archetypes to satisfy the plot. XD

You're welcome. Writing is a bit of a school of hard knocks; the only way to improve is to practice and pay attention to feedback. I personally find that criticism is more worthwhile than praise on it's own, as it gives you information which you can then use to improve. Still, it is a bit of a jarring experience (believe me, I know!) but you get used to it. I'll probably give some meaningful feedback for you when I term ends. At the moment I'm dealing with and essay, course reading and staring into space, knowing I get to go home on saturday.

Aureus, there's an universal fact: morning always comes way too early D:
his reactions to new technologies are always cute and interesting to read about, and the illustrations accompanying the text are amazing

Indeed, I have to agree with that one, lol.
Thank you~

Thanks I had to search the house for a suitable lamp reference, haha. But I found out lightbulbs are fun to draw.

If I told you your writting has a certain melody in it, how would you regard it?

Aureus looks adorable when he is investigating the lightbulb. I feel bad for him though. Lots of things changed since he left his time and he is not sure of what things remained the same. The lightbulb scene is both funny and sad.

Thanks~ Ah glad to hear that did come across. I was kind of thinking it as I was writing, but I wasn't sure if it was just me. At least the hotel isn't as high-tech a place as it could be, I suppose.

It looks like he's wearing the lampshade as a hat. This should be a thing.

= D This should absolutely be a thing. Maybe if we get him enough sugar and caffeine it will happen.

Thats so cool!
But where is he, where's he from? Is he in present day, coming from a slightly less technologically-advanced era?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Canis-ferox In reply to Haggis53 [2012-09-14 03:55:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, he's originally from the late 1800s (probably the 1890s) and has been brought to a present day setting. The details of how and whatnot are in my audition, but that's the basic thing~

But I think he's less crazy than he was at the beginning... I think.
