I needed to practise lightning and stormy clouds for a commission I'll be working on, so I opened Photoshop and started sketching a bit. I liked the look of the basic sketch and decided to work it out.I needed a subject which I could draw in there to try and work out highlights and shades in such an environment. And honestly, who better to put in such an environment than a Legendary Pokemon?
Raikou is the 'Original Thunder', he came down with the first lightning.
I initially thought the purple things on his back were mane (hair), but they're actually a stormcloudy substance with which he creates his electric powers (cool huh).
I might do a similar piece for a forest-ey environment.

I think the clouds look great, very swirly and frwooshy. Though the lightning seems a bit bland; if you check out some references, you'll find that it's generally one very strong core, and then a bajillion and a half faded little branches. Fo' example: [link]
But overall it looks quite nice; I like the electricity on his forehead. >:3

Ah yus, you're right. I had a different, very lightning-ey background first, but it was too 'busy'. So I went with a more simplistic, simple lighting

Yeah indeed. I wasn't much into pokémon anymore for quite a few years, up untill I saw one show yesterday afternoon and went... I wanna draw oneeeee 8D So I looked up endless lists of pokémon and there's so many awesome looking little critters there. They're simple but still awesome and I'd always loved the show. I looked through a list of electric pokémon and this one was the coolest by far x3. So I drew him! And now I'm tempted to draw many more -.-

x333 I remember spending countless hours playing pokemon crystal and trying to come up with the ultimate team combinations xDD cause me and my best friends would compete in pokemon stadium every weekend, and then we grew out of it and moved on to x-men evolution, and then on to other animes and such like naruto xDD
but the best thing about these shows that I like, is that even while you're sitting there watching cartoons, you're still learning about stuff about the real world 83

Yeah I know xD. Contrast and extreme shading I'll always have trouble with. It's just because I don't really dare using too much contrast, I'm afraid the picture will lose it's colourfullness -.-
I like practically all the Legendary Pokémon :3. Especially the 'hounds' (cats, if you ask me, but yeah).
