Description I figured it was time I submitted this! Promotional image of the Warlord class for Age of Wonders III. Done during my internship at Triumph Studios, under the watchful eye of art director (and founder of Triumph Studios) Lennart Sas. The background was done in collaboration with Jelle Steenhuisen (~Tygerias )!

I like it Always had a soft spot for turn-based strategy, and the knowledge that it's the first major game I've played where I personally know someone who contributed one way or another kinda adds another level of awesome XD

I can't even believe (Actually, I can) How AMAZING your work has gotten. Your design of both atmosphere and anatomy has gone amazingly far since I've been watching you online. Wow. Wonderful use of color and motion and focus.

Aw, thanks so much Kiki :>. I definitely do feel like I've made some big steps in the past year or so, but I'm never really satisfied with my work regardless xD. Always looking to get better!

This looks pretty good.
The only thing I really see that could use some work is the warlord himself. I see his sword arm has light on it, so that tells me that the fire light is atuallyactually off camera to the right some more. His abdomen is lit also by the same fire light, and yet his entire torso and face doesn't catch any light. Right now, the Star is the horse because it has the dramatic fire light on one side, and the blue fill light on the other side.
The cape seems to be a very thick material in this image. The space between the smoke stacks looks almost the same(the negative space/fire light space)
The rider going to the right is the only one going it a different direction,so he's stealing some attention from your Star; He's upstaging your Star.

I like how the main horse looks, and I like the concept and the overall design. Oh, the fire on the very left the guy is holding isn't as vibrant as the distant fire. Over all is a nice piece, and it's so cool you got to work with great people

Thanks for the crits! That arm gave me some trouble I must say, it's kind of an awkward pose! Good pointers .

Yeah, it really really bothers me. I would want to see the reference, because those shoulder pauldrons don't look like they move wwith the arm either...

I'm glad I can give you good critique and have you not hate me
I think you have so much potential compared to many on my watch list.
(I still haven't had a chance to crit the other big piece you uploaded)

I had two other people look at it and tried to find references (even shot some of my own) but it kept looking strange, so at some point we just decided to go with this because it looks okay. Not great, but okay.

Of course not, people who hate on others for giving them critique are only hurting themselves. Thanks very much!

That's a bit scary and sad and fascinating. XD I mean it was someone's house after all! Then again you Americans kind of ask for it by building your houses primarily out of wood.

Royce-Barber In reply to CaraidArt [2013-05-21 07:02:04 +0000 UTC]

Yes, yes it is sad. BUT IT WAS AWESOME. Both at once. Like watching Doctor Who and thinking, "Is that the T.A.R.D.I.S. or the R.E.T.A.R.D.I.S." You'd have to see Doctor Who to get that. I imagine you have. YES WE TUBBY AMERICANS BUILD OUT OF WOOD AND I HATE IT. I hate it so much. I love brick and steel and clay and rock and glass. WHY DO WE USE WOOD WHICH FALLS APART AND BURNS?!?!? You must be at fault some how. YOU. <3

I haven't I'm afraid!

Your houses are cheaper than ours though I suppose? xD It's just that.. I mean, here in the Netherlands there is really no such thing as natural disasters. Sure we have an occasional flooding or a storm, but nothing too bad, yet the vast majority of our homes are built out of brick and metal on a solid ground. You on the other hand get tornadoes, hurricanes, epic storms and whatnot, and yet you build your homes out of materials so light and weak that you could pretty much lift them up if you brought a few people together XD. BUT WE'RE AT FAULT YES. I will let you blame us <3.
