Aren't they the only poisonous cuttlefish? I'm sure I heard that somewhere... Usually, poisonous things are pretty and colourful.

yes it's poisonous:
"A toxicology report has found and confirmed that the muscle tissue of Flamboyant Cuttlefish is highly toxic, making it only the third cephalopod found to be toxic. Research by Mark Norman with the Museum Victoria in Queensland, Australia has shown the toxin to be as lethal as that of fellow cephalopod, the Blue-ringed octopus" (from wikipedia)

ummm there are about 10 species of blue ringed occi and the pyjama striped squid...... that are all poisonous. Wikkipedia is great but often, and in this case, wrong. That's not to take anything at all away from this beautiful picture of an extremely rare and wonderous creature!!! PHAB pic Awestruck

octopus and cuttle fishes are from the same family 'cephalopods' means 'footed head'.
and underwater everything is really very different

I love flamboyants! They're so cute! That's so cool you were able to get a picture of one. I love watching them parade around the sea floor.

it's very rare to see them infact.
Wat a chance that one was living just under the jetty of Kapalai and we saw them in every dive
