Emily, Victor and Scraps from the Corpse Bride

ahhhhh finally FINALLY it's done!

I drew this picture back in February when Corpse Bride came out on video; but I drew it so huge it took forever to get a decent scan! >.< But I think it was worth it

The Art:
This picture I think is one of my best just because I experimented with a lot of different methods for coloring.
The print on the couch was my first custom made brush, Victor and Emily's hair shine as well as the couch railing were my first time useing the dodge tool, and even Emily's veil and the actual couch cushioning were made using layer effects like Difference Clouds.
The key to what I wanted for this piece was texture. be it skin, hair, couch or dress, I didn't want any two things to be the same.

It was also fun because I had to take Tim Burton's warped wonderfulness and convert it to anime style. I tried to use as many shadows, like the insomniazed look to Victor's face
I also took a thin layer or just blue and made it extremely opaque over the coloring to make it more dull.

Another trick I used is messing with the actual lineart color- like the way I made the R.I.P. coffin pillow shiny (I want that pillow >.< I think i'll make it!)

As usual I was very fussy about the backround; but being I hinted at all the shades of blue in everything it only seemed appropriate.

Wait- you started in FEBRUARY?!:
I attempted to color it once; but after months of no progress on it I just ended up scrapping it. After I learned the proper way to make clean Lineart however, the situation changed. After a few deviations I came to the realization that I actually understood what is I wad doing! After all the tinkering I have done with Photoshop I at last had the means to make a work of art I knew could succeed.

Finally in September I found myself longing to work on something again; so I took the remaints of my first Lineart scan and started over.

The sketch:
The original composition wasn't much. Just a sketch after watching the movie. I had thought about how on dating-movie covers there is often the girl or other characters off in their own world while the camera focuses on the horrified main character. Thus this idea came to fruition.
The goal was more of beauty than horror. I had actually originally intended this to be a Valentine's day picture! It came to be a bit of a challenge when it came to doing Emily's bones and flesh; cause I didn't want her to look TOO gruesome; just as relatisic as the movie portrayed her.
I regret now not having a reference shot for some of it, because subtle details about the clothing and the dog are off. The angle of the couch is also horribly unbalanced
I had never intended it to be any more than just a basic sketch; but this is one of the lucky drawings where it came out the same as I pictured it in my head.

This also showwed me how much kaori Yuki had influenced my artwork o.o

Overall, I had always planned to color this. Although there was a few mishaps, I am confident they don't take too much away from the final product
This is one of my favorite pictures just because it's so different from my average subject matter; and yet still is so clearly me.
