I know that Marowak's ghost attacks you, but I don't think that Marowak, who was a mother, would attack a child like Alex. Although he's definitely a bit scarred by her appearance...and the fact that Team Rocket is worse than he thought.EDIT:: Updated to proper scan

Poor Alex. I felt like he grew up a little in that last panel, which is sad, since he should be an immortally soft cinnamon roll.
But, the thing is, I don't want him to be an immortal cinnamon roll just as much as I do want him to be one. He's got to grow up, and that's one of the main things a Pokemon journey is about, isn't it? I think Alex's mom would know too, and it would break her heart as a mother, but at the same time... it's better to learn these things from Pokemon, rather than a horror of real life.

The great thing about it being a nuzlocke, though, is that I don't have to force him to grow up. Bad things might happen, like one of his Pokemon dying, and he will grow up on his own when they do.

That's a p. gruesome Marowak, all right. I'd be surprised if Alex wasn't disturbed. Having her not attack him because he's so obviously a child himself was a good choice.

Yeah, I wanted her to be pretty bad But a more pitiful sort of bad. Hence the crying. I just thought, a mother in her right mind wouldn't hurt another child
