I know, I know, there is SO MUCH WRONG with this picture. Small feet. Bad background. Weird... stuff.But I still sort of dig it! It's from a scene with an old RP character of mine, taking her first mounted flight with her dragon. Dragon dropping out of the air = negative Gs = WHEE!!

I actually, love this... The colouring, pose, facial expressions, everything.. Even the background. I think the background especially brings out the true essence of the first flight.. Speed, and a lot of it. It makes it look like they're climbing a cliff, faster then any Dragon has ever flown before.

I love the look of extreme tension in the riding straps, it really sells the gravity 
I don't think there's much wrong with the background, it doesn't need to have much. It looks like the weyrs are blurring by, just as they should. The only improvement I can suggest is scaling her legs up a bit in proportion to the rest of her, and the dragon's wing-shoulder looks a little low. But the overall visual emotion is so overwhelming you almost don't notice.
