Description If I have a masterpiece, this is it. This is my maternal grandfather; Merrit Ritson, in his workshop, no doubt with someone trapped in a conversation about fishing. I copied it from the following photo, taken my a friend of the family:

I really love everything about my rendition of this. There is so much going on; his perfect body language and expression, the details in his tools and clothing, the amazing contrast, and the overall style and flavor of the picture and the story it tells. In retrospect, this ended up being exactly the touching tribute I intended it to be.

I WILL DONATE A PORTION OF MY PROCEEDS FROM THIS ARTWORK TO BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

For Grandma, Mom, Uncle Jim, and Aunt Sally

Graphic ink over rough pencils

Nice picture - it was a great accomplishemnt and even more so because it was done in ink - no forgiveness there. I have a portrait of my grandmother in my gallery and I think it's one of the best things I've ever done. Our loved ones defintiely inspire us.

The best art always comes from subjects that mean the most to us. This has such character, as if we go into the picture to meet him. The detail of the workshop is also outstanding!

I think it's a shame that it's flawless to you, that leaves you no room for development, like.. you can't progress. I don't think any art is perfect. I have to say though, this is very authentic and charming and brilliantly skillful, I just can't help hear that as arrogance that you think it's perfect.
A genuinely touching page of a precious story.

I agree that no art is perfect. This certainly has it's flaws, but when I look at it, I can't see them. They get lost in it's brilliance, to me anyway. I'm sorry if I overvalue this picture, I can see flaws in every piece of art I do.

This one's got style; imperfectly unique and pleasently un-weird. And certainly not ambiguous, unlike certain comments one receives.

I know you did this as a drawing of your grandfather, but I think its the background that makes the drawing.

Background lighting and choice of spot blacks are good. I think may favorite part is th ebelievablitlty of th ewrinkles on his pant leg. But there is one thing that really sticks out from a critique stand point and that is the hard lines on his face. I feel like they cut to much and should be softer.

Haha, no qualms about touting yourself, huh? No, with this piece you can do that. very nicely done, but I wish you had posted a larger image! The detail that I KNOW is there is pretty much lost in the digital form. Painstaking shading done here, and the tonal range is good. i find it hard to get the darks and lights diverse like this. although, using ink helps i guess.

Dear god you have combined two of my favorite..No wait three of my favorite things.
1.Ink.
Anyone who knows me knows I love and respect anyone who does such an outstanding job on ink
2. Memorial
I am a fan of memorial artwork it comes from my appreciation for memorial tattoos and whatnot really.
3.Hardware
and you have done a fantastic job in capturing the light and dark tones without destroying the fine detail.

Why hasn't this been selected for daily devs?
If I could give you two favs I would on this one piece absolutely wonderful piece.
