Description Whew! This is a commissioned piece that I've been working on for the last few weeks. The concept was to capture the idea of what BC enthusiasts think of as excellence in the breed - eye, working ability, etc. The Border Collie's name is Ross. Reference photo was taken of him working stock.

There is a border around it, but I've cropped it out until I can decide what I want to do with it.
Background is watercolor & a tiny bit of WC pencil in the forground. Dog was done in acrylics. 9x12 Arches 140 lbs. Hot Press Water Color paper.

Thanks I have five BC's currently living with me and co-own two others who live with their other owners. This piece was painted as part of the logo I did for the Border Collie Society of America's 2008 National Specialty. The completed logo can be seen here [link]

Thank you This piece was actually done as part of the logo for the Border Collie Society of America's 11th Annual Border Collie Specialty logo. I'm a huge Border Collie fan also (I have 5 of them - LOL!) I don't know why you would feel inadequate for any reason - you are very talented and have a lovely style. I love your canine portraits!

Sorry for the delayed response...I've been away at camp! I would love to have five border collies...haha. That was my original choice for a breed, but then an old blind shepherd showed up and I couldn't say no!

I am flattered that you like my style (what little I have!). Hopefully I will work my way up and get better over time. Meanwhile, I love what you do with your portraits!!!

I think you've captured the Border Collie as a breed very well in this. I can see his focus. XD I love your use of colour and your attention to detail. I can imagine this took you a long time to complete. Great work!

gorgeous work, as always! the eyes, the fur, you have such brilliant skill! been working with a bit of watercolor in art class lately, and i think you have convinced me to break out the paint i bought months ago and get cracking on learning how to paint.

Thanks! All of my BC's have worked stock, but some of them have better ability than others. My youngest BC, Loki, is a big goofball also, but strangely enough he's the one who is the strongest at working stock

Sorry - that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this. Simply because it's so amazing! I know everyone has commented about the fur, but I have to say it: It's remarkable! The shine and shadows are so realistic, and those eyes really caught my attention. And the texture of the background is beautiful.
