Absolutely beautiful dress! I love the sleeves, they're very nicely fitted with great cuffs.

Everything turned out quite nicely. The gable looks to be a good proportion for your head. Is the veil black velvet or black silk?

What time period and place is this from/inspired by?

Hi, It is roughly from King Henry VIII's time. It based off of a drawing by Han Holbein the Younger who visited England twice, once from 1526-1528 and then again from 1532-1540.

Ahhh. Thank you!
Also...I notice the blouse she is wearing underneath the dress. Do you have any idea if it has a specific name? I've been looking for it, and a male version of it that extends a bit higher.

She is most likely wearing a partlet, in the bigger versions of the drawing you can see a small button on it. (The one I am wearing in the photo needs that small detail added, or I might just make a new one.)A partlet is almost like a modern day dicky, it usually extends to midbust or to the underbust and can tie under the arms.
What I'm wearing in the picture layer wise: Smock, Stockings, Petticoat, Kirtle, Partlet, Gown, Coif (not seen) and then the Gable Hood.
For men, they did not wear partlets, they wore shirts. (Lucky blokes, they had less layers!) Some had simple collars and others with just a thin band. I think there are a few paintings of King Henry that show this. If you are looking for shirt patterns I can hunt up a few links. Really it is all squares and rectangles and they are pretty easy to draft.
