Heh, gotta love that moment when a great idea turns into waaay more work than you planned.
This is simply beautiful! The hatching in the background is seriously top-notch.

I can definitely tell that a lot of work went into this! I was going to ask how you have the
patience for something like this but since this was an extra special gift I can see how!
Hatching is not the easiest style to work with! Fantastic job!

There's definitely a "hump", usually somewhere between the pencil-work & final shading; where I think to myself "Crap, what have I gotten myself into *this* time??" *laughs* Especially in ones like this, where there's just such a large portion that I've doomed myself to fill w/ tiny cross-hatches. *grins*

But the results were definitely worth the trouble! About how large is this work?

A standard sketchbook page. I generally work that small just to keep these things at a reasonable pace, though reasonable is subjective I guess since they take months to do anyway :-P

Well it's all the crosshatching that must take ages! It's madness
just to think of all the work put into a piece! You probably work
on several works at the same time.

It does, absolutely. That's why you see me play w/ negative space on a lot of the pieces inbetween the ones with more hatching. So I don't get burnt out *laughs* I don't work on more than one piece at a time though, I don't think I'd ever finish anything if I did. I'll sometimes do the pencilwork for multiple pieces before starting in on inking them, if I have a queue. But I always ink one illustration to finish before starting ink on the next. I thrive on showing these things off, so I gotta make sure they get finished hehe :-P

That's a pretty good tip about not working on more than one
piece! I have quite a few drawings I never finished because
I would start too many at one time. I should just write down the ideas!
All the ink works are really suburb and you can tell that a lot of work went into them!

I'm learning painting at the moment with some lessons, but as soon as I finish I would love to
work on a few drawings! Not sure if they would be good enough to post though!

I should try posting more and also working on my photos more
often!

the crosshatching is tremendous and overall scene too - I cant help but notice her starry attire though - how she twinkles in the night - excellent work

Thank you my friend.
I spend a rediculous amount of time on just about every piece I do, this one took about 7x as long as normal *laughs*

I just let my mind drift off while I go at it, it isn't until after I'm done w/ the sitting that I figure how much my hand hurts :-P
