Creature feature for April at wetcanvas hehe"The Lindwurm from Germanic lore, is a winged serpent that has no legs or feet. It has a scaly green-gold body, with which is guards treasures. The lindwurm symbolizes war and pestilence, and is known to eat cattle and people."
Simple creature really but i got to test this solvent for colouring pencils on it, but basically you need a good layer of pencil for that to blend them nicely hehe but can work in layers ^-^
Edit: Yes I know this isn't the usual depiction of a lindwurm-a long serpent with two forelimbs. Although a wing is technically a limb so in a way it is a serpent with 2 limbs still, just an interesting take. Anyways I believe I grabbed this description from a monster encyclopedia I had on my book shelf at the time. I needed a quick monster for a forum challenge. I took a description from a book and then drew a creature to match.
I know the term lindwurm (translates to mean snake dragon) was used widely and could cover anything from giant serpents, sea monsters (Norse tales) to full on dragons especially in european tales. The typical form in european folktales tales and heraldry has two short legs and occasionally also small wings.

There are zero historical descriptions of Lindworms having no legs (that I can find, if you have one please post it), there are three main Germanic stories; the creature of Klagenfurt the creature of Wurmannsquick and St. George's Dragon, All 3 possess 2 legs, with Klagenfurt and St. George's dragon possessing wings.
British describe it as a wingless serpentine monster with two clawed arms in the upper body. And in Norwegian, it's a Winged 2 legged creature.
In fact, I cannot find a Lindworm description with them having no legs, except for your own, which has no reference and while appearing as a quote, has no hits on google as to the origin.
Sorry but your drawing is without question an Amphiptere.
Amphipteres do have feathers in some descriptions, but drawings of them from the 1600s are just a winged snake/serpent.

Yes I know it is not the typical depiction of a lindwurm (I remember a kids book on draconic beings I had where one was fed milk and lived in a well?) and is more of a winged serpent than anything else. I think to be classed as a typical lindwurm in heraldry I would need to give it fore legs.
Although in a sense it is a serpent with two limbs, a wing afterall is a limb. That and I believe it literally means snake (lind) dragon (wurm)...a snake has no legs.

All I can say is what I know historically. If the picture had legs 2 it would be a lindwurm or a wyvern, if it had 4 it would just be a classic European dragon.
Typically those "monster encyclopedia" books are a bit at the author's discretion and made before the internet so they took a lot of assumptive liberties with the descriptions, and that link you posted is odd, the entire site is dedicated to dog shows except for that monster encyclopedia section, as far as I can tell it's not a historical description.
Ultimately you can call it whatever you like, it's your fantasy creature, but I'm just saying that if you wanted to be historically accurate to Germanic Lore it would not be called a Lindworm.
Amphiptere ("Amphi-" meaning 'on both sides of' and "-ptere" meaning 'wings') it not really Germanic either, but I don't know of any Germanic creature that is a snake with only wings and no legs.
If you're going to call it something citing "Germanic Lore" and then use a name not associated in Germanic Lore with the anatomical description... I mean you're just looking to get corrected.
There is this passive movement on the internet with Dragonology fans whitewashing historical mythology with the mythological fiction of the books, so it's kind of important to be accurate if you're going to say it's historically accurate. I'm perfectly happy to be wrong about all this, but I have never seen any historical references to back up Lindwurms having no legs.

Thanks! It just depends on whose descriptions you are following and yes most lindwurms are wingless. Yet I do state I am following an old Germanic lore description. Lindwurms are very variable. Think amphitheres tend to have feathers on part of their wings.

I luvish the way you do wings, I have a question *clears throat* you know when you sketch you sketch in pencil (duh) how do you colour it so you cn't see the pencil lines? does that make sense? i've noticed most of your drawings are like that

i use light pencil and also erase the lines so that they are very faint before colouring and sometimes i draw in colour usually a pale colour but thats when using coloured paper to draw on.

lol yes the dragons were created by a genetist from the firelizards when ppl first arrived on planet. then the first storm come and yeah they go back to not so civilised world and history gets kinda lost XD
