Description A remake of my painting "Subterfuge" from 2013.

The character is my faerie Sayariel from Tales of Eldriath

I wanted to make the same general picture, but somewhere in the middle of it I chose to alter the tone from simply sorrowful to something more.. complex. She was supposed to look just as sad in this version, but it wasn't really working out the way I wanted it, the face didn't look good.. so I started playing with her facial expression.

Actually it was the thumbnail that steered me in the right direction. Her face looked more hard and angry than in the fullsize picture, so I just made a new layer and decided to try it out. Angling the eyebrows down.. adding a crease between them, darkening the eyes. And there it was I had fiddled with the face for hours, but what solved it was one simple experiment.
It taught me a valuable lesson: Don't be afraid to alter the idea if the current one isn't working out.

Storytime!

This picture begins where the old version left off. Sayariel is being banished from her home in the seelie faerie kingdom, on the accustion of compromising the kingdom's location to humans and planning to lead them there. (The faerie kingdom can't be seen by humans.) She's being falsely accused of this by her consort, as revenge on her for being unfaithful to him with a human man.

-----------------
Shock turned to disbelief, turned to sorrow.. turned to despair
And despair.. turned into hate

If she was cast away from the sun, so would she cast the light away from her heart
But darkness is lonely
And hate is best fuelled by others
So she set out to find a way to sate her burning emotions

However, as it always is
She needn't find evil
Because evil would find HER
------------------------

To be continued in another picture ;D

What a huge improvment! The face, colors, background, everything looks so much better than before!

I know that feeling when you feel stuck and nothing you do works out, until you try something new. Funny thing that.

The color variations and the shading makes her so much more alive and real. Nice touch with the reddish brown details in all otherwise greenish background.
About the green, maybe that should have showed more in her shadows, as bounced light? I can see you added more purple which is good.

Nice details in the wings. Did you want them to be opaque? I think they could work out semi-transparant as well.

One thing that stands out as off here is that her body seems too small compared to her head. I think her arm is slightly too slim, but the major problem is probably her breasts is too high up. These two things give the illusion that the body is too small. I know it's easy to miss stuff like that when you're so focused on other things.

Otherwise I have to say that you've done a job well done! Be proud.

Thank yoooou <3

I added some green bouce light to the corset, but maybe not to her skin :0 I was afraid it'd make her look sick haha. but I'll try it next time!

The wings were kinds rushed >__> I couldn't get them exactly the way I wanted them.. but they're meant to be semi-transparent ^^ so you see a faint shade of greenish grey in them.

I have a hard time with proportions when it comes to half-body pictures like this (when it's fullbody I have more body parts to compare to, which makes it easier) :0 Need to practice, maybe should have taken a ref pic.

True, green and yellow can have that effect if you apply it wrong. But try it at least, see if it works.

Now I can see some slight hint of green, but if you wanted them more transparent more should have shown. Sometimes I see artists just draw a line for the silhouette and patterns in the wings and some highlights, but then they're really transparent.

Proportions it tricky and it's easy sometimes to get it slightly wrong. Especially when you're so focus at other stuff, shading or values for example.
Otherwise I see improment in your anatomy and proportions, so it's starting to pay off.

Yeah I have to get the hang of transparent stuff more xD not just wings, but fabric! Can be a real pain.

Mhm I agree, it's hard to get the proportions right at the same time as everything else. I think the problem here was I was trying to do it all at the same time. So I've started focuing more on laying down an anatomically correct sketch before anything else ^^

That's a really good idea, start with the shapes and general ideas first. Then when the foundation is nice you can add details and last start to color.
