whoa.. I had to do a double-take when I read your description.. Dry erase?! That is amazing!! How big is that board? and... how many markers do you go through in a given week? Love the dynamic poses.. gives the whole thing great energy and movement! Awesome job!

Thanks very much. I found great markers that I get along with really well. They hang in there for me.

I've upgraded boards since then but it's like 3' x 2' or so. I have a half dozen laying around of various sizes though. The office supply places carry a bunch of fun ones around back-to-school time.

"Djuwoom, Djwooooom." *Waves lightsaber around.*
You did an awesome job. I would never have the patience it would take to do this sort of thing. Keep doodling!

Thank You. Making the noises DOES help, and my co-workers are used to it.

And then your kid comes into the room while you are taking a break, erases it, and draws some bunnies. Your art is good, but why on a dry erase board that can be ruined by just a brush of your sleeve on it, say when moving day comes around?

I like erasing them. It's a possessive claim. Tattooing is fun, but I get no say in what I do or what happens to the piece after the client walks out the door. My dry erase board is for me.
Besides, I can chip away at one of these for weeks, and by the time I'm done, I'm usually sick of lookin at it. I take a pic and scrub it off.

But if it was on canvass or another more stable medium, you could sell it for money. Isn't that the ultimate goal or artists, not to be necessarily be seen, but to market and sell your art so you have a stipend to live on?

Cheape In reply to JessaFlux [2013-03-12 02:35:36 +0000 UTC]

Maybe. I don't think it's the ultimate goal, but definitely one of them. I make a living tattooing. When I started doodling as a kid, I did it to entertain myself. G.I. Joe vs. Transformers vs. He-Mans. I did it cause it was fun. That's what the Dry erase board is about.
I think the ultimate goal, while debatable, is to do one's best, or to express one's concept clearly. Recognition and cash are bonuses.

I like that approach. I only recently started doing a bit of that at my work place... doodling on the dry erase board... sketching a few things.. only to have them erased... it becomes more art of the moment.. and something about it being impermanent makes it special (or not special) in a different way.. mine are mere sketches.. this is one is so much more involved..

The ones I try too hard on don't come out as good. They look labored or false. All the corrections and second guesses end up adding up to a lot of decisions that don't work organically together. This guy flowed pretty smooth and quick. I'd love to fix his cape, but I might have ruined it in doing so. When George over-thought his films, he ruined them.

Thanks! Patience makes up for my lack of skill. If you got enough time, you can correct your mistakes. S'why I love dry erase.

This is a unique talent you could possibly go far with. Never seen anything like it. Sure I see random derp smilies on the board when I walk into class somedays but nothing as crazy as this!
