I remember I did this quest twice for the lulz so I could see the SPACE LASER. Totally had this kind of reaction too. THEN I WENT AND BLEW UP THE LEGION WITH IT.

I just played this quest.
I actually played out this scenario to look at the fireworks. Problem was, Boone was my companion at the time, and he didn't take it too well. Jumped back to an old save just to avoid his wrath.
Last three panels are hilarious.
