In a dark corner of the cavern, covered in cobwebs and yellowed with age, lie the crumpled remains of a letter; the faded script still conveying the regal eloquence of its author despite the cruel march of time.  The single page seems to have been crumpled and then smoothed out multiple times before finally being cast aside into that dark corner, and the pale circles that mar the yellowed parchment bear testimony of the letter's impact on the reader:

My Dearest Twilight,

It grieved my heart to no end to hear of the passing of your friends.  Believe me when I say there is nopony who better understands the pain of outliving those you have grown closest to, and to lose so many at once, in such a tragic way, must have been especially hard to bear.  All of Equestria mourned with you at their passing, as befits heroines of their stature.

But Twilight, I'm afraid for you.

You have grown so distant and so closed over the last few years.  Do not let your grief drive you into the darkness your friends fought so hard to drive from Equestria.  Do not repeat the mistakes of the past, the mistakes of Discord, Nightmare Moon, and Sombra; who tampered with the harmony of the world for their selfish ends. I may be old, but I am not blind, Twilight Sparkle, so do not think for a moment that I do not know about your visits to the restricted archives of the Canterlot Library.  You were my most faithful student, and I should not have to warn you of the dangers the magics in those tomes contain.  There are forces that ought never to be meddled with, and the most sacred of these forces are Life and Death.  There comes a time when all mortal things must pass, Twilight.  Even Luna and I will one day move on to a new existence.  There is a time to grieve for the lost and a time for mournful reflection, but there is also a time to put aside that grief and greet the dawn of a new day.

Please, Twilight, I beg of you as your peer and friend, come talk to me.  We could always talk, and the castle feels ever so empty without you.  Even Luna feels your absence in her heart, though her stoicism may prevent her from openly admitting it.  For your own sake, and sake of your friends' memories, let me help you.  Let me share the burden of your grief and help carry you through this dark time in your life.  Do not become the darkness I am sworn to fight, and the cause of my own grief.  Trust me as you once did and let me help you return to the light.

I don't want to lose you, Twilight.

Please, come home.
