Description Handle Wrapping Technique: Level 4 (Ito - Hineri Make Style)

Hooray! we have finnally reached an actual technique to wrap sword handles, and it has taken me a damn long time to learn it aswell. This is the most basic and most common method of wrapping sword handles however it is rather difficult to find the right colour ito. That is why people turn to using ribbon, but doing these twists and turns with ribbons, is very difficult becuase it always slips. So you wanne get yourself some shoe laces which is the closest thing to an actual "ito". Now you would ussually tie off the end of the knot by threading it through a hole in a cap, that will not be covered in this tutorial im afraid. Learning it from scratch it should take no longer than half an hour.

chioky In reply to sherlyXD [2011-09-17 16:18:20 +0000 UTC]

This tutorial = awesomely helpful.

I first tried it a few months ago with ribbon, and after two days of intense con-going? FAIL.

I recently got something very similar in texture to shoelace, but it was 2-3 times as wide, and I pretty much screwed the entire thing up with my amazing abilities to not pay attention.

Now I've decided that the world is against me and doesn't want me to have red shoelace. I've been to four different stores today, and so far have found nothing. >_< *pets her poor Haineko* It's okay. You won't be naked much longer. xD

At the very least I have the technique down very well.

chioky In reply to MoonlitVampyre [2009-10-24 23:49:35 +0000 UTC]

2 two three times the size of a normal shoe lace? it does not have to be that wide lol, any wider and of course it is difficult to know

funny though I thought red shoe laces would be the easiest ones to find

anyway hope you enjoy

I loves yous. The is so amazingly helpful and a lot better than the other tutorials I've found.

I used a type of ribbon that's not quite bias tape but it's has a ridged design on it so it's easier to grip to it. I didn't think to use shoelace.. granted the ribbon was only $1.50. I'll have to try the shoelaces on the next sword I do ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chioky In reply to isa-koneko [2009-08-17 19:00:59 +0000 UTC]

my method works, and has been tested many times by many other people

I know it will also work for you, and it did it seems. Sure bias tape might have an easier grip, but it lacks the subtle thickness and softness that shoe lace has

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

isa-koneko In reply to chioky [2009-08-18 00:39:00 +0000 UTC]

indeed it really does. Got it on the first attempt too ^_^
I'm going to try the shoelaces on Hitsugaya's sword once I'm done with my haineko. I'm thinking I might like the shoelaces better but haineko's handle is thicker than the hitsugaya's I have, so the thicker laces might make it more bulky than I'm wanting it to be. But we'll see
Thank you for posting this, you have no idea the size headache I had trying to figure it out ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chioky In reply to isa-koneko [2009-08-18 10:20:33 +0000 UTC]

sure the handle might be more bulky, but in reality the handle that we make should be alot thinner, but at its current size, it makes it much easier to cut out XD

oh well good thing you did it on the first go, it took several tries for me 8P

FoxKids1302 [2009-03-09 02:06:58 +0000 UTC]

Uhm, may I ask, how can you find shoelaces that long?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chioky In reply to FoxKids1302 [2009-03-09 08:14:33 +0000 UTC]

there normal sized shoe laces

Oh great, you elaborated the Handle Wrapping too!! Thank you!! I think I will try doing it with this shoelaces technique too, provided I can find light grey shoelaces for my Fornicaras...
If I read your other comments well, you are going to explain somewhere, later, how/where to find that craft paper that resembles faux ray skin ?

Also, I wanted to ask you if you made your sheaths yourself? Because I don't know know how to do that, nor if I can find some somewhere that'll actually fit the sword...

chioky In reply to Parvati4th [2009-03-01 21:37:45 +0000 UTC]

*sigh* I applaud you for finding this tutorial, but all your other questions are answered with other tutorials in my gallary if you looked hard enough XD

The ray skin paper you get at paper mills: [link]

well step 15 being the last step should not be difficult, its just sewing the ends of the string together XD

Well done chioky, this is quite good! I never did work out a way to put this into a tutorial using pictures, it just came out sloppy. Yours came out very nice and clear I think. You should probably put down any sources you used though, even if you changed the wrap a little.
