Happened to be listening to 'The Sun's gone dim, and the Sky's turned black by Johann Johannsson and it just went absolutely perfect with this picture. Paints a whole story. Excellent work, mate!

Do you use any artist's effects in photoshop, or is this all just done by painting?
For example, the slightly blurred foreground.

Well, sometimes i do use blur filters because the blur and smudge tools provide little control over the effect. I also use sharpen filters for the downsized jpeg files, due to resizing some things tend to lose details, sharpening kinda puts them back into place.
Otherwise, just brushes and a couple of other tools.

Wow ChrisCold, you truly have out done yourself on this piece. When I first laid eyes on "The Skyde" I found myself staring at for literally 5 minutes. The lighting and atmosphere you have created around such an abstract object is spectacular. The detail you have added is quite extraordinary as well. I really don't know how you are able to create such amazing pieces of art.
I am sure I have told you this before but I figure it can't hurt to say it again.
You have a wondrous ability to create such unique pieces of art that very few people could even conjure up in there head. Every piece of art you create is something different and is special in its own unique way and improves dramatically from the last. You have a very special talent and I am glad to see you are not wasting it.

pirates have low budget so they build everything using wrecks and stuff. It's a station too so you wont need to pilot it around like a ship.
