Wow, between the end of school, work, and the holidays this one took forever! But I LOVE how it turned out. The Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs is one of my faves. Mercy is the main character, a VW mechanic who is also a native american Walker who can change into a coyote and was raised by Werewolves. I took extra care to try and color the wolves to look as much like the characters in the novels as I could.

Thanks I just found yours and its looking good but it look a little unfinished because there are a lot of flat colors and the pencils don't give enough depth by themselves for a colored piece. The contrasts in a piece give it the 3D look. What program do you use?

Have you ever checked out ImagineFX magazine? The website has a lot of useful tutorials and the magazines come with dvds that have tutorials, textures, photo refs and all sorts of goodies on them. Also, I have a folder under my faves that has some useful tutorials and references. There is a skin tutorial in there that helped me a lot on this piece. Another good way to learn techniques is to check out the livestream for Nei Ruffino and watch her paint. She's an awesome artist and she's fun to watch.

you didnt offend me trust me it might be easy sometimes but you didnt i just wish i had the cash how can a student version of 3dsmax cost only $400 but a professonal version cost $4000 they are exactly the same you know

ChrisNewmann In reply to Blackmoonrose13 [2011-01-03 14:20:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I guess it's cause they know companies and school districts will pay the $4,000 but normal people don't have that kind of money lying around.

It's [link] it's a magazine for digital painters and science fiction and fantasy artists.

I've got a friend who tells me all the time to use more contrast She's been saying it for over a year now! It's hard though because I feel like I use too much if you can see the lines, but I'm getting more used to it and sometimes it's not so bad to see the lines because it helps me show muscles.

That's really good... so let's see if I can guess which wolves you chose The white one's obviously Sam. I guess the two brown ones next to him are Warren and Ben. The left wolf by Mercy's arm could be Adam and the one in the front could be Mac... I think XD so there's one wolf left, hmm I would have expected Darryl to be there but that's not him... I give up. So tell me how far am I off the mark?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrisNewmann In reply to raion-rose [2010-12-24 05:14:42 +0000 UTC]

Very very close! Yes the white one is Sam, I put him at Mercy's right hand as her best friend The two behind him are Warren and Ben (Ben has a little more red to his fur) since they seem to be her protectors when the other 3 aren't available. The one at Mercy's left is Bran (since he's always behind her as a father figure) and the one in the very front is Adam (because he becomes the most prominent in her life and the most prominent in the piece).

Bran was described as all the shades of black and white making him a grayish and Adam was a reverse siamese with his body being that dark bluish and his snout and ears pricked with silver. The one in the very back was so far away there wasn't much I could do with the color so I just made it a generic wolf.

It's awesome to know that a fan of the books was able to tell who was who!!! Thanks!

You are welcome yeah I love the books they truly are a fantastic read ^^
You made an excellent choice with Bran. Funny thing is that I thought of him when I saw that wolf but then I thought that he was more present in the Alpha and Omega series XD

Well that I was able to recognize them just shows how awesome your coloration is
