Description For once I figured i'd model something that actually existed, so it here it is, a Soyuz space craft, first launched in 1966 and still in use today. A rather bizarre looking ship that oddly looks good from any angle.

Made in: Blender,
Vue 10
Photoshop.

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

Nothing fancy, nothing flashy, simply functional the Soyuz remains a premier technological achievement of the 20th century.

The near pastel quality of the piece, coupled with the high cloud form behind, captures the grace and serenity of the early low orbital zero G fights of the module presenting a stark contrast in image form to the prevailing (post Kubrick's 2001) tendency towards the extreme light/dark shading of most interpretations of space flight all the while while retaining your individually recognizable style.

The composition suggests both the long standing desire of humanity to soar above the cloud layer along with the yearning to explore new and unknown horizons.

Well done.

Being a long term Fanderson it is refreshing to see you tackle a 'real world' space vehicle (another of my fan areas being as I am a frustrated wannabe astronaut ) and as such have you considered the x39 or Virgin Galactic's Spaceship Two in your future visionary work?

Cheers, been considering doing the SpaceX stuff as they are rather funky looking.

I'm a long term geek of unrealised space technology, which is ironic as I have just been re-watching UFO which includes a design one step beyond Virgin Galactic's first stage binary vehicle, I am going to go out on a limb and suggest Richard Branson would be very wise to use your experience and skill to augment his vision.

Beyond this all I can say is that NASA, et al, and the people behind the new and upcoming Anderson based projects would be missing a step on the stairway to future success were they to not see you as a forward thinking resource in their developments of the same.

Chris continue to have the courage you have thus far shown, you are a visionary who shows a remarkable ability to conceive past, present and future into the potential of human endeavour which is a rare talent.

Cheers man, luckily I have had the pleasure of working on some of the upcoming GA projects which has been pretty fun.

More stuff on the way

You are most welcome, the work produced demonstrates the passion you have for the subject matter. As someone who has enjoyed the GA productions for a long time (I go back as far as TV21 and Dinky toys TB1&2 still sit on my mantelpiece) the prospect of 'More stuff on the way' is a big bonus for my being part of the dA experience.

I will never understand how Russia is able to build such angular and rough machines and still make them look so good.

Beautiful piece! I love the lighting.
The Soyuz is a good, if simple, spacecraft.

Very nice!

Are you gonna do illos of other spacecraft like Gemini, Apollo, or Shenzhou?

Thanks, I might, it makes a nice change from doing fiction all the time

The Soyuz should get more recognition - it is in fact the most successful space vehicle humans have ever built. Nice work.
