Silvers ears were like radars, going back and forth and trying to pick up every single sound. I tried to calm the mare, but it wasn't her nerves.
She was simply excited to be working, be in the arena, in the spotlight. I had to chuckle. "Easy girl, one more minute."
Luckily the gate opened sooner than later. Without my doing, the mare sprung into a gallop forward, breezing down the center line. I luckily regained my control just in time, showing a good stop just shortly behind of the center marker.
We swiftly backed up to the center and turned to the left, before starting our circles. One large and fast to the left, the second slow and after a lead change the same to the right.
Finishing up the figure eight, we found ourselves back on the left lead and turning down the center. Upon coming to a stop past the end marker, Silver did the three and a half required spins to the right.
Another run down, stop and spins to the left later, the calf was finally released into the arena. Silver - already a fire cracker evolved into a rocket donkey.
The bay roan mare was almost unstoppable, keeping the calf boxed for the required 30 seconds at the end it came from. She was constantly snorting every time she threw her body around and it was genuinely hilarious.
"Easy now." I muttered and picked up the reins a little more and maneuvered her in a way that would drive the cow down the fence. Luckily, the calf got the hint and darted past us, seemingly escaping.
Silver launched herself into a flat out gallop, going after the calf. I let it get past the center marker before giving up my position next to its shoulder, having Silver dive to the right and thus turning the calf.
It straight up ran into us before turning, but the mare didn't bat an eye - changed leads practically standing still and accelerating after the black cow again.
I was almost launched out of the saddle by her sudden start but quickly found my footing just in time for the second turn. This time we turned the calf to the left, Silver squeezing her slim body between calf and fence effortlessly once we had changed directions.
Beginning a circle to the left at first, we stayed next to the blacks shoulder, before moving behind it to change directions as soon as we completed one circle. We pushed the calf into a circle to the right before I gave it a pat on the back as soon as we closed that one as well.
Silver immediately dropped into a trot, head hanging low and chasing the cow towards the now open gate. Applause accompanied us on our way out.
