Description I've been watching Season 2 of Overlord.
So here's Zaryusu Shasha, and Crusch Lulu. I ship the lizards. <3
I thought of a nice, romantic scene, so I just had to draw it.

Hopefully, you enjoy this scene, as well.

A romantic evening in a pool under the stars. You're making me want to watch the anime just to see these two characters interact.

I happened to read the manga long before the anime appeared. I enjoyed Lizardmen story arc quite a lot... until the main "hero" entered the scene.

Jee may as well just comment Ainz kills them, not everyone has read the manga like you, couldn’t wait until the series had 5 episodes in it to say a spoiler or something that really really sounds like a spoilerΒ

It is you who said a spoiler right now. By stating outright that Ainz kills them. While I said nothing about what exactly the main "hero" did or what happened to the lizardmen.

So shut up.

Using β€˜β€™ around hero and ... those suggest really bad and/or sad things to happen

Bazil3282 In reply to NightmareSith23 [2018-02-04 23:03:26 +0000 UTC]

Nooo, it suggests that I have absolutely no liking to the main protagonist (to the point where I refuse to call him "hero" without quotation marks) and I think his appearance ruins the story. Because I got to like the characters, sympathize with them when they fought against all odds (putting effort to the fight, no less) and felt the impression of their badassery... only to find out that they are - after all - basically just there to stand in awe and watch how oh-so-unimaginably-powerful the main "hero" is.

Because that's what Overlord, unfortunately, is all about. Inflating the ego of no-lifes, who have oh-so-unimaginably-powerful characters in the MMO they play, but they are nobody in real world. Reading the Lizardmen story arc allowed me to forget about it, but its conclusion reminded me of that immediately - when a lizard race with a potential (probably the only one in manga/anime) was wasted in an instant and reduced to the role of butt-monkeys for our so-called protagonist.

SAME BRO, GAWD
I know you posted this a year ago but ... I'm in the exact same boat. I watched Overlord for the cool lizardfolk. The MC and his one-dimensional posse couldn't be less praiseworthy. I don't understand why the writer bothers developing such a rich and interesting world and characters just to have a bunch of uninteresting losers who had everything handed to them on a platter just curbstomp all over it and ruin everything.

From what I know, things are like I described above. The author of "Overlord" (and the likes of him) was not interested in worldbuilding or character development. The whole point was just to make oneself feel good by writing a story that revolves around a "hero" who is essentially their self-insert. In that case - a borderline nerd, who did not accomplish anything worthwhile in his life, but hey, at least he wasted that life playing some kinda MMO (no, I don't think that by playing MMO or computer games in general, you automatically waste your life - in fact, I am an avid player myself) and created some sort of overpowered character (or few). But, since creating such character means nothing in real world, he can at least imagine that he gets transferred to a fictional land, where his overpowered character is real - so he could jerk off gloating how "great" he is. So it shouldn't be a surprise that all other characters in such fictional world - including those poor Lizardmen - exist there solely to get their asses kicked by the author's/reader's self-insert and fuel their ego.

Yeah, the self-aggrandizing, back-patting, worship-mongering stuff is the reason why most isekai are kind of gross. I'm glad not all of them are like that, though.

A rather...harsh way of putting it, perhaps... although, I can't say I entirely disagree.Β Β

To be fair, though, I would say that Overlord's way of portraying this scenario is handled considerably better than most of the other generic "Character-gets-sucked-into-a-video-game" stories I've seen out there...Β Β

One point you may have overlooked, though: To my mind, Ainz isn't really intended to be your traditional "hero" protagonist...or even an anti-hero, for that matter!
Instead, he makes me think more if you took a character like Sauron, or Emperor Palpatine; except, they still had something loosely resembling a "moral compass", so to speak... In that respect, he's actually quite a refreshing & original character... If not necessarily the most likeable!

All that aside; yeah, I agree, it kinda sucks what happened to the Lizardmen... Alas - that's simply the sad fate of being a bit character in someone else's story! Β
