Nidhoegg, the dragon, fighting with Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil is an immense ash tree that is central in Norse mythology and considered very holy. Nidhoegg is discriebed as an evil and agressive dragon or snake like dragon. He seems to have a very close connection to snakes. It is not so clear wether he is more snake shaped or wether he has a more dragon like shape. Also there is said that he can fly. I orientated my design at some old drawings where Nidhoeg has two legs. Nidhoegg stays in all eternity in Niflheim between the roots of the old ash. There he is feeding on the dead and getting tiered of their taste, he bites and gnaws from time to time at the roots of Yggdrasil. He hopes to weaken Yggdrasil and have influence on the fate in that way. Its an eternal war between life and death. Yggdrasil can fight back. With this stylised Growth zones of his roots he, the holy ash, is stabbing the dragon and fighting back.

Main pattern for this drawing was the northdoor with carved doorjambs of the Urnes Stave Church in Norway (12th-century).
