Description Hamlet, my favourite tragic hero in his `inky cloak`, poor Yorick`s skull to his feet.
Based on Kenneth Branagh`s interpretation of the prince. I could newer really decide, wether I could sympathize with him or not. Hamlet, not Kenneth Branagh, with whom I highly sympathize

True, but I still prefer the Branagh version. Mainly because he made the gargantuan effort to put the entire play on the screen. He made for quite a good Hamlet too, of course, even though he was a touch too old to be entirely believable.

I love Hamlet! He is one of my favorite heros, and I always can sympathize with him. I have watched the Kennith Branagh film so many times that I have memorized almost all of the lines.

Wow, I love the fact that you know the skull! Not many people knew it was poor yorick the court jester even though they all use the skull in hamlet pieces. I like your painting very much other than him being on the older side. But I assume you are doing it from the movie, in which case I understand I would not entrust the roll of hamlet to a younger boy the movie would have been horrible. This was my favorite outfit of his I loved his jacket. and I really love the detail on the collar.

I know what you mean about sympathizing with him, he's just such a snappy dresser! ...and of course, Kenneth Branaugh is amazing, and I love him for his brilliantly done Shakespeare movies!

Sidetracked... I love this, it's so simple in it's design, it really lets the emotion of the character shine. I would love to be able to capture feeling like this in art!

Ah, Hamlet! If only the books my English teacher handed out to us contained such charming illustrations. I'd have been a lot more interested.

I especially enjoy how you've somehow managed to give his jacket a velvety texture with watercolor.

This is somewhat inspired by Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet and he was admittedly a bit too old when he played him (but so was Olivier).

I love Hamlet! (And I love Kenneth Branagh, too )
But what's amazing of this picture is that I saw the extra tiny thumbnail and thought "Hey, looks like Hamlet!"... Great characterisation, really!
And the simplicity f the image and the cold, sober colour scheme are really good for the character.

I can't stand him (Branagh) as an actor, and I think he was too old to play Hamlet, but that interpretation was probably my favourite (followed closely by the Ethan Hawke version). Excellent deviation, I love the colours and the lines. Especially the shape of the nose. You've captured the costume wonderfully.

cidaq In reply to Brig-the-Bold [2006-03-12 17:31:51 +0000 UTC]

He WAS too old to play Hamlet, but so where many who played him. It is not easy to find someone with the right age and enough personality to fill out that part. Besides, Branagh`s Hamlet adaption was more stage-like than movie-like and in theater the right age is not as important as it is in movies.
However, thank you for the compliment
