Description After her successful mainline trials LMS Black Five 44871 remained at Carnforth until the 30th December, when she operated her inaugural mainline tour post overhaul, the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express tour from Manchester Victoria to Carlisle across Shap, and back to Manchester via the S&C. Here she is seen in Preston on the initial outward leg of the tour, which for me involved a 5am get up, something I don't normally do...

The one thing that impresses me about the black 5 is the raw, natural look. To me, the black 5's are the true expression of steam locomotives unlike the equivalent hall & manors. No brass just rather masculine line. Great job mate.
