I still think that in the way you handled light and the hair,

that this is your finest portrait...followed _very_ closely by others!

The reddish sanguine contributes much also...

 Merci!

MERCI!

I have seen ALL your paintings, including the acrylics It's certainly a good deep work,  revealing of the artist you are. - ( the artististic part of you  the less joyful and impulsive, more thoughtful and  constructive? -) I remain fanatic of your watercolors .You know that!

Ah! mais!  I have told you that I would have been pleased to enjoy the top of the head of your woman in white/blue gown... I have been watching it 5 minutes at least. As to the men's portraits, I have the feeling that they bring on their back all the despair of lost men... Why? I don't know!

rollarius55 In reply to ClairObscur16 [2017-07-12 19:59:05 +0000 UTC]

I hade the feeling while painting these three I've made a new (little) step forward in my acrylic work.. I felt looser in painting and was quit satisfied with the results.. Was wondering if you have the same idea... Sorry for asking...

ClairObscur16 In reply to rollarius55 [2017-07-12 20:16:39 +0000 UTC]

Don't be sorry! It's important that you feel satisfied when painting! You aren't Van Gogh!
Can you tell me what kind of "step" you plan to get over?  Technically, your acrylics are certainly good!  I just wonder why all your  relaxed, cool,
carefree models ( usually women...) are painted in watercolor, and your "men" often sad, absent, looking to endure an overwhelming destiny
are depicted in dark, cold acrylic colors?  It's a good question for a psychanalyst... I admit that I would like to know how you choose your subjects....
 Goog night, Dirk!  M.

Perhaps it reflects a deep admiration for women..   I don't really know. Like I often say: I just follow my impulses when painting.. (something I can't do when I'm working) and most of the time I don't worry about what it means.. So my choice of subjects is emotional, impulsive, associatively... And so I don't plkan anything, I just do.. .-)
Anyway, it's an interesting observation you make here.. Thank you for that. And for you kind and intelligent support!!!

I'm very pleased that you turn your admiration towards women... I'm sure that there would be lots of things to tell about your "emotional" choices when painting, even if I'm unable to do it! For now, I content myself  enjoying your so joyful/colored/lively - unequalled, unrivalled - watercolors!

In my opinion, not all my w&atercolors are so joyful (despite the colors)
But of course I'm glad you enjoy them, Michèle!!!
Have a nice weekend!!!

yes, BR is right...in some ways,
such as the way you handle light & shadow,
and, the suggestive hair space,
this is your finest portraiture..

BR's comment about your ability to say so much with
suggestive lines, is so very true..esp in this of Reb.,,
and, in your new David...you capture an ineffable
aspect of personality that only the best portraitists
can...

Don't forget that I haven't given up the project of drawing Rebeccas'neck, in the right pose of Anaïs' one, that's to say with her hair got up in a very free bun? Two spins are sufficient! You can comb her with your own hands!     If you want a drawing of your daughter's neck, you must convince her!I really desire to make this drawing...( When I did the pict of Anaïs, I was thinking of Rebecca)

 Don't forget the right pose!
just the line of the eyebrows and the cheek; bring out carefully the neck, but keep some " crazy locks"?

Becky may want to wait until she visits me at YLP
before she puts her hair up thusly...

My drawing (sanguine) of Rebecca has been chosen as so many "favourites" and in several collections .... I"m astonished!!  It's not a masterpiece..  BRipin remains the most flattering, and perhaps  the closer to the truth.....
Will you try to convince Rebecca getting her hair up?
