Of course she is pretty. She certainly does resemble La BB.
But my money is on Mme Claire, who I suspect was prettier
to many than BB....

You suspect wrong! I have never been as "pretty" as Brigitte Bardot. I was what we call a "sauvageonne".
Little savage?
Only my eyes, arms, shoulders , chest, maybe hair were worth to be noticed.Otherwise a banal person...
Poor Mme Claire!
7Markus7 has exchanged this drawing and the olive trees against his autoportrait and 2 paintings.

I will have another original for you, I think.
- If you are interested -
I'm working on a drawing of a Shetl in Kovno-Kaunas.
But it needs a lot more work,
and perhaps even some color...greys...
I can probably show you an early version
by the end of the week...
I have seen a lot of the work of the photographer,
Roman Vishniac - the inspiration.

I don't know the great contemporary photographers, but Cartier-Bresson and....Hamilton?I have not any photographic culture.
Can you help?
I'm expecting the "early vision".

Then you are in for a treat!
Cartier-Bresson is often considered the most prominent,
and he deserves it because of his humanity and range,
but you will see that Roman Vishniac has gotten a lot of attention.
David Hamilton is famous, sensuous, and seductive,
but his range seems very narrow.
Annie Leibovitz and her portraiture,
as well as Yousef Karsch and his portaiture are admirable,
and unforgettable. AL is still very active.
I am _most_ partial to to Edward Curtis and his
classic and unforgettable portraits of
North American Indians. Ansel Adams and his landscapes are
classics and for any wall.
There are so many...

What kind of treat?
I'm unaware of the photographers you quote, but Annie Leibovitz, maybe: wasn't she the "partner" of Leonard Cohen, some years ago? I may be wrong.
In fact, I know only 2 famous photographers: Robert Doisneau ( he's "French" in all his inspiration) and Robert Capa, because of...
the war? ( During my last year at the High School, I made a talk about his war pictures).
Photographing is one thing, painting another one! I can't help but thinking that the first activity is ...easier.
Could you show me some portraits of Edward Curtiss?

Apologies.... I see that you asked for some examples of Edward Curtis,
and I let that request slip through the cracks...

I read more of Annie Leibovitz.
It appears that she and a well-known
intellectual, Susan Sonntag, were
very close friends for several decades.
But, it does not appear that AL was involved
with Leonard Cohen. But, I may have
not read enough...
I like much of AL's work...up to a point....
It doesn't seem to catch much except
the surface of the life of her subjets...
I think her range and her aesthetics are very limited,
compared to Bresson, Capra, Nan Goldin,
and many others....

Oh! Yes! i have this one. At least, I know where to find it... I'm suprised that you want it: you were not born by the time of BB's glory! I'm only 4 or 5 years younger than her, and I was 17 when I drew her. OK! I'm gonna send it to morrow, at the address you give in the note.

OK , Nick. When young, BB married Roger Vadim( who was, later, Jane Fonda's husband).
I think (modestly!) that my drawing is good enough, even though it's her right profile and I do prefer to draw left profiles - more easy!

Really, you are young..... If you had read my reply to Carolyn ( Dec. 21th) you would have not written what you did! She was famous 50 years ago. And I have never been famous!
Dear Paulo, it's not my portrait. But I was proud of this drawing: I was only 17 when I did it. Thank you any way for your flattering reply! It's a good compliment: one can dream....

Hello, Carolyn! I realize that I'm truly old....Your grand parents would have reminded of Brigitte Bardot who was really a "star" around 1958/1960. Her nose, her mouth were perfect.
I've never been - alas!- as beautiful as her, but I remember that I was very satisfied with my drawing...It has been excavated from my personal archives by my grand daughter
Julie. ( ART Ju on DeviantArt.)

I'm also old, dear Michele. When my son wanted me to join dA for the main purpose to keep a record of my art, I initially told him that I'm too old. His reply was, "Mom, everyone on the internet is the same age. Not to worry!" He made me laugh and now I believe it
You were and are as beautiful. When typing ART Ju on dA, a deviant came up and I don't believe its your granddaughter - She is from Turkey with a different first name.

No, Carolyn, I have never been a "wonderful reacher" to my grand daughter. She spent all her youth studying , in order ti be an engineer. She got her diploma in august, then decided to draw. She is a self taught drawer.(Correct?). She just begins to ask me for advices.
I have read " you are not alone" too, and this text has brought me a kind of serenity and peace. I wish I really knew the one who wrote such words.

As Elenimeliou, you are too young to recognize her!! Brigitte Bardot when she was 21 - and me 17!!!!! When young, she was obsessive for a lot of people....A good actress, I suppose. Now, she just cares her dogs, at St Tropez.
