Description I wasn't planning on baking today but i passed some lovely looking blueberries in the shop this morning so decided to make cupcakes (made wit gluten free flour so i could try them) with my eldest daughter.

I was going to put butter cream on top but then realized they are for the kids and it is not exactly good for them plus they would probably end up eating the butter cream and leaving the cupcakes so dusted over a little sugar instead.

I am having a bit of a problem with my camera at the moment. The auto focus is not focusing half the time when i get close to my subject, i have to back off a lot and it is ruining my shots, it is becoming very frustrating. Not being very technical minded i am not sure if it is me or the camera but it has only been happening these past couple of weeks. I will have to have it sent off to be looked at but 3-4 weeks at least with no camera is not a nice thought! On top of that as i baked spur of the moment i didn't have great lighting, i normally photograph at a certain time of day for the best light so apologies for lack of standard today!

Made with my usual recipe!

Me and my sister made some chocolate and banana ones for our mum for mothers day. But the paper got stuck to them, I wonder why :/

i read this can happen when you eat them still hot/warm they will stick. I also read sometimes spraying the paper liners with a little cooking spray can help stop the sticking

Ooooooo...a breeze, that sounds nice. It's only just cooling down here.
....I saw the cakes, and when you'd mentioned not putting butter icing on, all I could think of was a topping of Mr Whippy instead..

I think this is one of my biggest bakes yet. It's four 12x9 inch roasting tins worth of sponge, that will hopefully resemble a lorry by Thursdy!

....and no Mr Whippy.. but it is just starting to cool down now...

ginas-cakes In reply to claremanson [2012-05-28 11:39:38 +0000 UTC]

I tell you what Clare.....if I ever mention that the hubby has asked me to do a cake....send me a slap...a big one!
...it's 100 degrees, and the 'cake for work' has turned into a monster. After I said yes, and he told work, I then found out it was to feed about 80 people, and 'no pressure' but lots of people are going to see it. I just started to construct it, and have more sponge in the oven because there wasn't enough...

...I can't even give him grief as he's not going to be around till he picks it up Thursday...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

claremanson In reply to ginas-cakes [2012-05-30 03:34:33 +0000 UTC]

hehe ok will do! sure does sound monster like! hope you don't go getting obsessive and dreaming of it! Also very clever or lucky of him to be away until it is done!

Sorry for late reply. I have been neglecting all my messages the past few days. I have been having a major sort out around the house. I am such a hoarder but i can't keep everything! Also been having problems with my lovely camera.

That's ok Clare....I know it's because your busy..
....whats up with your camera?

.....and the cake would be alot easier without this humidity. It's going to look ok, but could be better if the icing wasn't so soft. I've got 1 day to finish it, so all the faffy little details to go!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

claremanson In reply to ginas-cakes [2012-05-31 03:26:11 +0000 UTC]

i understand about the icing! i had the same trouble myself the other day when making cookies covered in rolled icing!
my auto focus on my camera has been playing up for a few weeks causing me a lot of stress and worry, then decided not to work at all the other day. i took it to the camera shop straight away. the auto focus is completely broken, i was so glad to hear it was the lens and not the body with the problem else i would have had to have sent it away for a month to be looked at (not cheap!) but he said manual focus still works so i have been trying that out. i wont buy a new one until that goes too, i hate to get rid or buy something until what i already have is broken!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ginas-cakes In reply to claremanson [2012-05-31 16:10:04 +0000 UTC]

Well...I suppose if nothing else, you will be able to have a go with the manual settings on the camera. My hubby has explained so many times.....but I still don't understand.

....and I've almost finished the cake....not really happy with it, but it will do. I'm just so fussy, and if the weather was cooler, it would have been square and smooth, so it's a bit annoying that 40 hours of work has maily been trying to salvage what I've already done...

i only let him go as Metalica are playing this year, they are playing their entire Black album as it is the 20 years annivesary of it or something, he is a huge fan. the ticket cost £250! he comes home two days before his birthday so he is going to be a happy man. many other great bands are playing too including Corey Taylor who is doing an accoustic set of cover songs but there are 5 stages and they all play at the same time so he clashes with another favourite band of his who will be playing a mixture of new and old. i told him if he dos not see Corey even for 20 minutes i will not forgive him as we named our youngest daughter Sasha Corey after him as he is one of my idols! he is going to be living in a tiny tent for 5 days surrounded by snacks, only 3 days the music plays, it will either be a mud bath or a sauna!

I wouldn't feel bad......if your other halfs the same as mine, he'll be getting 'him' stuff whatever time of the year.
....and it's the thought that counts, not the price.....

ginas-cakes In reply to claremanson [2012-06-07 12:06:18 +0000 UTC]

Well.....no-one knows unless they read all the comments on this...

....Ooooh exciting! We got married in a registry office. I think it cost us £75 back in 1993....wouldn't have a clue what it is now. It was a really nice day though...no pressure of a big event, and just close friends and family..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

claremanson In reply to ginas-cakes [2012-06-07 13:59:26 +0000 UTC]

the legal stuff to get checked out now is £70 (£35 each) and the wedding is £49. considering i don't want a car, a proper wedding dress, will ask some friends to take photos and trust one with my camera, see if my mother-in-law will make the basic cake with my recipe and i do the decorating, my dad said he would sort out the do afterwards as i really am not bothered, just want to go somewhere with our close family and friends and chat and eat, no speeches or dances so shouldn't be too costly which is good as we are saving up to move

Awww....I think it will be a great day... The family will love helping out, and it will be more special.
...have you got any ideas where you might like to move?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

claremanson In reply to ginas-cakes [2012-06-08 15:23:48 +0000 UTC]

we wont be moving far, i want to be within 5-10 minutes walking distance from the school and shops because of my stomach some days i cant really go out and we don't drive. main reason is we need a 3 bed house and a proper garden.
