I just bought 9 of those gondolas in the background! And 3 in the P&LE roadname. Two are in the funky Penn Central teal and one in tuscan red.

Yeah... I always wondered how long they kept them around. They really only used one at a time.

Nice! There's a Camelback at the Strasburg railroad in PA that will be renovated to run again. It has a rather small boiler so it will only be able to pull about 3 or 4 passenger cars.

camelbacks were the oddest looking beasts... an SP cab-forward made more sense to me than the camelbacks where the fireman was out in the cold separated from the engineer.

Yeah I agree. Camelbacks were also dangerous; boiler explosions pretty much meant sure death for the engineer, whereas the original locomotive design had some survivors during such an event.

I'm always a sucker for seeing a steamer on the sidelines. Deadlines, and cold steamers being moved always make me sad. Its like watching an exicution line. So seeing a steamer who is given a reprive, however short it is, always makes me smile.
