Description In effort to round out a concept art portfolio I've made a sheet of 100 character thumbnail concepts. Some are decent, some are lame; I'll pick a couple of my favorites and render them in more detail.
I'd also like to do a fan favorite, so let me know your fav and if it's the most popular, it'll join mine in the polishing room! Cheers

I like the diversity of your concepts. I have a more monster based concept sheet on my gallery on page 3 called Monster Dump. I also have quite a lot of character concept art as well all around. I hope you enjoy.

Speaking as a person who sucks at making thumbnails (I just draw a few ideas of what I want the character to look like and then go with it) it's nice to see how it's done right

That's an awesome skill to pick up for getting real dynamic poses and having several options for a final piece (in this case 100 xD). You've inspired me to pick this up, thanks Damascus5! Incredibly awesome work!

I do the same thing, but man. You're better at it than me. :L, Do u realize how many sweet pictures u can make out of each one of those sketches?oO, Have u out drawn each one of those or just some.

PS: Do u mind if i take some? XD

ClintCearley In reply to orin3 [2010-12-03 18:23:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have refined six of the concepts which can be seen here . While I'm glad you like the work, they are not stock images and must request they not be used by someone else as I may very likely use some of them later. If you do a couple of batches I'm sure you'll come up with a couple that are promising. I recall that I deleted about 20-30 weak ones to get down to the group you see.

I just saw *yongha0 's version of this style of concept sketching, and they provided a link here. I know this is from six years ago, but the same can be said of it now, too. Absolutely awesome and wonderful work!

Hey Clint,

Just wanted to let you know that I saw this just very recently as well as Mark's video through the link and was really inspired to do try this out for myself

This is what I came up with if you're interested [link]

I was a little stuck with how I should show the process in my folio, and this and mark's video really helped me get up and running again so thanks a bunch

These 100 concepts are awesome by the way, I really like the girl with the dark shiny outfit that you took to the next stage; as well as the sword wielding (samurai?) that seems to be floating/has feet together very gracefully =]

zippythewildone [2010-09-21 01:02:28 +0000 UTC]

when you drew these, did you have an idea before you sketched the thumb, or did you just start drawing and see what it turned into?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ClintCearley In reply to zippythewildone [2010-09-21 16:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Most of the time I didn't have the character planned beforehand. I would try and have pose in mind but that was about all. It was mainly about making a "readable" pose and interesting silhouette. I like your quote btw
