Its interesting, the imagery here reminds me of the Dune novels, with tiny people looking up at a gigantic snaky/wormy creature in a desert. I really love the sense of the creatures colossal size. Truly impressive work, well done.

When the whale in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy impacted the world below, some distant onlookers spread the story with embellishments. Eventually, the poor creature's short-lived fall would be dubbed The Fall of The Leviathan, with all it's entailing biblical story added on. Millennia later, this is one popular artist's depiction of that fabled, historic event.

That was my impression of it.

The Eir Elaia – Jumping Whale – was last sighted in modern Afghanistan 1240 A.D. By far the biggest of the known whales, the Eir Elaia has a long eel-like body and hair-like growths on parts of its gigantic body. It lives in the deepest part of the oceans but like all mammals it is dependant on the breathing of air. Also, this species has the ability to travel fast across vast masses of land. It cannot survive more than a day or two out of the water, but by wriggling itself powerfully it is able to β€œjump” enormous distances in a very short time. Traces, or β€œfootprints”, of these giants have been found about everywhere across our globe, but the most recent of these valley-shaped sites is deemed to have been shaped over 800 years old. Exactly why the whales chose to occasionally leave the water remains a mystery. Scientific theories suggest that when stranded the whales began to struggle (jump), but had very little control over which way they went.

Extraordinary. I particularly like all the extra-sensory spines it has. Part dragon, part whale, part catfish. I also really enjoy the spray effects the water is making, and the silhouettes of the hunters. But how, praytell, would you catch a jumping whale? Perhaps trick it into landing in a bed of harpoons? Still, why would you kill a creature of such great magnitute? It looks like it could feed thousands.

Very interesting indeed.

This is just amazing! Beyond that, I can't describe it.

I took one look at the thing and I thought it was Leviathan
Then I read the description
And then I saw your paragraph about it.
And finally, I then saw you say you made it up.

But its still awesome!
