I had this sort of idea that the ceremony is smaller and more private, but the reception is every single pony in Ponyville. The ceremony and her wedding dress are more simple to show respect to her parents' traditions. At the reception she would change into a second dress that she can dance in. Another thing is that the necklace was made by her sisters and is polished rocks.
