Description Here's part of a page I never used in my webcomic, "Opey the Warhead".

In an earlier version of the comic, I was going to start with the origin of the world's most lovable weapon of mass destruction. This was to be the first page of that version (which took place in Japan originally), but it was never used, as I decided to start the actual comic with Opey rather than begin with his origin.

Drawing those Japanese temples took forever, so I decided, rather than let this drawing collect dust somewhere, I'd post it on DA.

The style, in this earlier version, was much cartoonier than what I used in the final version (and a bit more anime-looking).

I think the time spent on the temple's worth it. It looks great!

Thanks for the compliment and taking the time to drop over on my little corner of DA! And congratulations on getting into the Sydney Medical School.

Thanks! It took me hours to draw all those Japanese temples and in perspective, too. And it ends up being only a small part of the page.

Certainly, I'd be honored.

Is there any deviation in my gallery you want to ink, or do you want me to supply you a different uninked page?

inking a page would be great!im old school zac ,i have to have the brush and ink actually touching the work,i realize thats a lot to ask for so maybe you might want to just send me a pinup sketch to see how it works out?

I'm old school, too. I use ink and a knib to ink my works, but when I do my pencils, they tend to be so thick, some of them look inked.

I'd love to see you ink some of my pencils, so I'll send you something as soon as I can.

Thank you for submitting, I really like the first panel. The light, the buildings, the trees.. It's very calm and reminds me of the Edo period.

Thanks! Naturally, I worked from a photograph because there was no way I was going to be able to invent all that detail. The photo may have been pre-World War 2, so maybe the temples looked exactly as they did in the Edo period.

Thank you! I wish I could somehow insert it into the Opey storyline, but I probably wouldn't be able to do it anytime soon.

Thanks, although I had to use a photo reference to draw it. What made it a hellish exercise was that it was extremely detailed and possessed complex perspective. Yikes!

Of course the japanese are quite experienced when it comes to apocalyptic disaster, and it comes through in a lot of work that comes from the far east, so the opposite could also be argued. I still love the look of opey though! Spot on!

and I hope you don't think I was trying to be patronising or anything - tone doesn't come across well on the internet.

Thank you for the wonderful analysis. Seriously, if Opey was a graphic novel, I'd love to see those words as a blurb or in the foreword.

I never thought this could be related with Opey's story until I read your description.

Thanks! I love how in Japanese comics they have those realistic looking shots of cities and temples, and that's what I wanted to go for here.

I also had fun drawing the second panel, but the girl listening to the music is too high up in the panel in relation to the others.
