Perhaps if she's touched repeatedly just before the 72 hours are up enough times the time for it to wear off could double.
Touched at 71 hours, spell wears off in 142 hours, touch again at 141 hours, spell lasts 284 hours, repeat, then spell lasts 568 hours. Each time it doubles, after 9 more times the gold spell will last 145407 hours, 398 years! Another 12 touches and the golden spell will last 1,630,208 years! Touch her another 14 times she will be solid gold for 26.68 billion years. Another 12 touches brings her transmutation to over 27 trillion years till it wears off, essentially forever!

the whole reason behind the 72 hr limit is the villain could just turn some random stuff to gold and retire off of it...
if there is a time limit it becomes compulsive-obsessive to keep the gold in that state which means keeping track of the time and thus madness
