Would you look at that. I find a gorgeous piece of art, come down here to leave a comment, and realize the artist is the same person who was kind enough to direct me to the help desk. xD
Anyways, the picture. It looks great, and I can't help but wonder; is there a story behind it which came to mind as you painted? The building is run down, though of course those beautiful plants would not have entered without the gaps in its construction. I notice that the robot appears to be connected to a machine which seems part of the room; a caretaker, forgotten perhaps?

Well, technically the story behind it is more the background story of one of my other characters, but I felt like the white of this robot would make a more cohesive piece.
It's inspired by this guy's backstory: [link] where he was left on a deserted planet to manage the biospheres and technology present on it. So he watches as the man-made things in his environment succumb to the grasp of nature; a death of the machine that he doesn't necessarily find objectionable.

Details are great, but the anatomy of the robot's proportions don't really have consistency with the background, it feels like a spoon to me. Introduce perspective and foreshortening to your future work and you will do very well.

is this something where tech is being abandoned and nature is taking it over? the android seems perplexed by what the plants are doing there. very nice job by the way!

It's sort of inspired by the second law of thermodynamics, which is that in a reaction or process, entropy (S) will increase or remain constant. That is, the change of entropy of a system (delta S or ΔS) will be positive.
So lately I've been thinking about this law and how it relates to our society. I was inspired by how we have dust and dirt accumulate in our buildings; moulds grow in the walls; plants sprouting through concrete, and how we're always fighting this battle against nature to keep the order of our society. Even if we go extinct and machines took over in our stead, they would have to keep up the small battles lest they cease to function.
This is sort of a "what if we stopped fighting" picture.
