The hushed mews around the highrock made Sandpaw uneasy. Something felt wrong and horrible inside. She tried to push her way through the mass of cats, but Whitestorm caught her with his paw and held her back. "What's wrong?" She asked the white tom, but he was looking straight ahead.

She looked too. Through the warriors' pelts, she could see the fiery and dappled pelt of her father, Redtail. She frantically pushed through, even biting Whitewing's tail; the old she-cat hissed. Once again, Whitestorm grabbed her, picking her up by her scruff. She reached behind and scratched him in the lip. He yowled in protest and pain and dropped her.

"Let's me through! I want to see Redtail! I WANT TO SEE MY DADDY!!!" She pushed through the final layer of cats.

There was her father, covered in long scratches and blood, not breathing or moving at all. Sandpaw stopped, unfeeling, until her chest hurt and she breathed. Tigerclaw tried offering an explanation; the RiverClan deputy Oakheart had killed him, but Sandpaw ignored him and threw herself onto her father's limp body.

She cried. Wailed. Caterwauled. This was the warrior who taught her to hunt and fight, who raised her through kithood. Her agony made the Clan uncomfortable. Eventually, her cries and sobs subdued to faint mewls. Bluestar had Willowpelt take her to the apprentices' den, excusing her from her chores. As Sandpaw walked by, tears streaming down her fur, she noticed a young tom standing next to Greystripe, watching after her.

Me n' friendie were talking, and we noticed that Erin Hunter never paid attention that Redtail was Sandstorm's dad. Or the agony she must have felt when Tigerclaw dragged him into camp. So a fanpic and fanfic in one!!
