Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President of the United States, ascending to the office upon the untimely death of four-term president Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1945. Joining the Missouri National Guard in 1905 and eventually serving in France during the First World War, he rose to the rank of Captain. After the war, he joined the Army Reserve, where he remained until leaving the office of President of the United States in 1953.
