Description First commission of the new year, and for the great scribe

This is one of the few non-combat vessels in his Shootingstar Universe, and despite its role, this was very hard to do because not only had I had guidelines to follow, I also needed to make the vessel meet Terran styling but at the same time look like a luxury liner.

The solution came to me in the form of the Arks in the film 2012. They to me looked like spaceships and the idea flourished from there. Another hard part was coming up with a colour scheme. This however was inspired by ideas; we brainstormed to come up with this.

As always, please check out his page - its a wonderful world full of rich ideas

Like to hear your thought and for you spec hounds, the Cygnus' details are below.

Enjoy

Now that is a big beastie of a ship! She is big, and very pretty; I can see why those Arks inspired you. Hopefully, the ship you have designed here probably won't be its passengers' last resort (All right, bad pun.)

Good to see that Shogun is still commissioning you! That story he's building must be just fantastic; it'd be amazing to get a glimpse into his mind.

It's amazing what you have done with this design, considering the guidelines you had to follow! Terran design doesn't lend itself to luxury liners. For one, the design, though mentioned before, is just stunning andΒ

well-suited to its purpose as a luxury liner. The sleek,Β smooth hull at the front tapers to the nose and transitions easily into the rest of the ship. That, and I've always been impressed by the detail of the lighting you

can pull offΒ with many small, well-placed windows- these here are a terrific example.

The colours all work well with one another, too! The grey of the hull provides a fitting backdrop to the bright blues and subtle reds going on which tie the piece together.

I think you've made Shogun proud, sir!

Colourbrand In reply to I-Plexiglass [2014-02-15 15:43:28 +0000 UTC]

Last resort - LOL!! Very bad - but a hoot

Well when I went looking for inspiration that also followed Shogun's philosophies; simple, non-outlandish, practical, and restricting. Most starliner ideas were either ridiculous, themed, over the top, ultra-advanced, or very alien to Shogun's ideologies.

When I saw them ships, I thought "perfect - look futuristic but not absurd - just add engines".

The logo I thought may not have worked but a number of people have picked up on it, including yourself, so I am a happy bunny for that.

Thank you again sir for your wonderful comments and generous support

I-Plexiglass In reply to Colourbrand [2014-03-14 23:15:57 +0000 UTC]

It's a shame how easy it is to divert from practicality or even physical feasibility in ship concepts such as starliners and similar kinds of huge star cruisers! It's as though the more commercial they get, the less important a realism
becomes. That's tough- it really surprises me, though, the wealth of knowledge you have you can use to find suitable references out of the internet where so many lie. It just takes looking- it's good that you've found a design
that works!

I would imagine that in just the way they were made, the arks' designs transposed fairly easily to the Terran style. How convenient!

It's fun to have little details noticed by the public makes it totally worthwhile.

Always a pleasure sir!

Nice. It reminds me quite a lot of the warp-driven liner that Sternbach came up with for the Trek Spaceflight Chronology. Of course both just capitalize on the image of the ocean liner and update it.
