Description
This is one of two commissions for for a concept of a video game he is planning to put into production.This one depicts the central player’s ship, the Starlight; this is a dedicated beauty shot.
’s ships are joys to work on and helped galvanise my skills more. In this case, the central ship was very detailed and it took time to get it right – as best as a 2D artist can. I struggled with this but slowly it just flowed.

Oooo- such detail, I can tell this'd be challenging as a non-3D interpretation of a 3D image (I assume!)- and he modelled this all by himself? Truly impressive- I say again, this looks like a great, fun game in the making. I'd love to
be the pilot of a ship like this.
I checked out some of the development he's got here- looks like a pretty ambitious project! I really wish he uploaded an exterior view of the Starlight, because the interpretation you did of it is terrific- this looks like a solidly-built
ship that can hold its own in anything. The hull design you gave it is excellent, and looks realistic, especially with the varying shapes and colours of the panels- it reminds me of something you'd see in Spore!
too; their shape compliments the arrowhead shape of the ship.
Your background is looking really nice, too. Just a subtle swish of colour to make the Starlight stand out okay, with a few planets beside her to draw interest.
Very cool work overall- the struggle and skill gains was worth it!

HEE HEE! Spot on - that's what I always say about backdrops - they make a pic.
The ship I think is the best I have done because as you have pointed out, its the panels that give it more. The drive units I had to guess via the rough details given to me from Dharker.
When it was complete, the trick was now a backdrop that resonated with the central piece - not kill it. As the old saying goes, less is more.
I think its a good design - and if a game does ever come to pass, will let you know my friend

The best you have done, you say- that is high praise the artist can give himself! I love hearing that- when you can impress yourself, you know you have really made it!!
Agreed- too many pieces I have seen have ended up choking their central focus with backgrounds that have been too full of detail or frivolous nuances. We don't need to see every single star in the sky- you've got that philosophy down
well!
