Description Reva's fun day at the beach really started when she happened to meet up with her friend Verlidaine. The owl griffin was busily collecting eggs, which the friendly Samhradh offered to share. When it came to digging up turtle nests, no one on the beach was faster than Daine!
After their feast, the pair wandered east for a while. Following the crowds, Reva and Daine found themselves ringside the wrestling matches, spending a good portion of time cheering on the best -and handsomest- fighters.
Eventually, the girls strayed from the clay deposits (too many big, scary Skrekrills!) and towards the water. Several griffins were skimboarding in the surf, (or trying to) and it wasn't long before the two friends decided to have a go themselves.
Their attempts were, to say the least, far from graceful. Reva and Daine even went so far as to try using a section of Leatherback shell to toboggan over the water- with spectacularly messy results. It was practically sundown by the time the pair managed to get completely cleaned off.

As she was scrubbing her paws one last time, Reva noticed something funny happening to the water. She immediately pointed it out to her friend, who stared silently, seemingly in awe. Then, all of a sudden, the larger griffin swiped her talon across the surface, shooting a wave of glowing seawater in Reva's direction.....

And then their Noctiluca water-fight was on!

For 's summer turtle event! I'm really pleased with how this turned out! (The art part of it, at least. The writing up there is rather poor and definitely not my best )
A buttload of refs were used for this, ranging from a silhouette of the Farallon Islands to pictures of wet cats
There are not enough photos of Sea Sparkle/N. scintillans on the internet!

I listened to a lot of Beach Boys music while making this, and the title is supposed to channel "In the Summertime" by Mungo Jerry, which I also listened to often.

Done on Corel Painter 11 (I think I finally got it to like me)

I have a lot of respect for those that are able to produce such beautiful pieces such as this one. Painting is beyond my artistic ability and I cant even get my airbrush to work. The background is very nice and free of unnecessary details. Night time was a great choice for this picture as at least one of the griffins is part owl. The lighting does not completely reflect the night sky so there seems to be light coming from where the griffins shadows should be. the griffin on the left also seems to have no pupils in its eyes with the refection too low to be from either the moon above or the water below and the other griffin has no highlight in its eye at all. All in all though this is a stunning piece of work

Thanks! ^^
The griffin on the left is based on an Oriental bay owl, and those birds have very strange eyes indeed >_> [link] [link]
Nevertheless, you're probably right about them looking odd; it's very likely that I messed up on a number of things

Don't know why but griffins are my favorite mythical creatures followed closely by dragons.
