1969 was an incredible year. The Justice Society protected America, The People's Heroes guarded the Soviet Superman's Russia, man was landing on the moon, Woodstock was the thing to go to for the counterculture movement, and Psycho Green was about to wake up and free Rita Repulsa... ok, that one may be hard to explain. One hundred years previously, with the help of the White Stranger and another man who shall remain nameless for now, Reginald Ranor, Zordon and Alpha were able to set up defenses on the moon to stop the release of Rita Repulse. Dark Spectre sent one of his minions, a green flame monster called Pyron wearing armor given to him by Reginald's evil clone, Ethan Garrison so that he would look like Psycho Green. With man landing on the moon, the ship Pyron was on woke him up and caused Zordon to choose five people at random to help Reginald stop Pyron/Psycho Green. Reginald protested since humans had never been chosen as Rangers before, except once in a dire emergency almost one hundred years ago. He felt he could handle Green himself, but Zordon insisted. At the very least, the ones chosen had qualities that would be similar those chosen later on. Grace Sterling courageous and strong, Jamie Gilmore with a love for music, Nikolai Chukarin intelligence agent for the KGB, Terona Washington strong with a good work ethic and Daniel O'Halloran a free spirit. Along with Reginald, they made up a temporary team of Power Rangers to stop Pyron. Though they couldn't get along at first, seeing how Reginald fought, giving of himself to protect them, they came together to help him stop Pyron, but when Pyron grew, Reginald threw them into the protection of Rita's castle, using his Green Ring. Since Zordon couldn't send the Zords to the moon, Reginald had to create his Alligator Zord in warrior mode to try and destroy Pyron. He soon realized that in that form, it didn't have enough power. He realized, two more zords, and possibly two more Rangers, would be needed in the future if Rita did truly rise again. Though Nikolai was willing to sacrifice himself, Reginald destroyed Pyron, not sure if the powers went back to Garrison or not. The five were sent back to their normal lives, but they realized how much smaller the universe was and they had to find a way to protect it, since Reginald and Zordon wouldn't allow them to do so as Power Rangers.
