Possibly, possibly. But then I have always liked eels and squid. They are friendly, well eels more than squid maybe.

Somebody said that this creature would be descended from octopi to make the flexible trunk feasible but I don't think that's the case. Β The head and fins of this animal are very clearly derived from squid and/or cuttlefish which makes either of them more likely as an ancestor. Β I imagine that by this creature's time, the rigid internal shell of squid or cuttlefish could evolve into something more flexible, or disappear altogether and appear only in the animal's larval or embryonic stage.Β

Nice points. I'm not worried about it, it was an idea that made it to paper.

Nice--sort of an electric eel squid.

These could be derived descendants of octopi - actual cuttlefish have a hard, internal shell which would make a serpentine mantle impossible. Awesome and very, very plausible!

You are quite right, for some reason I forgot that small detail. I confess I wasn't thinking about much in the way of internal anatomy when I came up with this.
Octopus you say, that bears looking into. Thanks!

O GOD, like all the best spec bionts it seems so obvious and natural once I see it! I can totally see these guys hovering half in and half out of their seabed burrows like grass eels, fins all aflutter. Or peeking out of crevasses in coral reefs. This probably doesn't really fit, but my first thought was that they might also make nice lamprey analogs...I think it's that row of lateral dots giving me subliminal lamprey vibes. Which is another one of those assessments I don't get to make frequently enough in casual conversation.
You know man, if you made these GIANT they would be awesome sea monsters, ala Con Rit!

I think you are absolutely right about the lack of subliminal lamprey anything in conversation. There just isn't enough awareness on the subject and I think it is about time that changed. Sublime idea - lamprey squid. Giants - even better!

This is so perfect ... I want to say it;s really one of my absolute favorite things you've ever made, but I think I favorite a good percentage of your work anyway XD
Brilliant!

I can't take all the credit for it as all cephalopods are inherently perfect and so any representation of a cephalopod or variant inevitably approaches perfection.
You do favourite the odd thing and it is always gratifying so thank you :3

It's me trying to put some discipline into my life when it comes to my art. I am also trying to put in place a sketching regime but that isn't working either ha!

Oh wow that's great! It's like a vermiform eel-cuttlefish thing. I can actually see those 'fins' toward the back rippling as it moves along, poking around into rocks looking for food.
