Description My newest shot of the U.S.S. America to grace my desktop. I don't even want to know how much time I actually spent on this and the image of the ship isn't even fully complete. I used the original, but blew it up much larger so I could do finer detail. The original was done in MSPaint. This one was done using Paint Shop Pro 8. Eventually, I'll do some more realistic shading. Compared to the older drawing, which was done by digitally altering a picture of the ship this was based on, the EDF Andromeda from Starblazers, I've made this look much more like the plastic model I built this ship from, including getting the camo pattern correct. You can also see photos of the model in my gallery.

Image updated 6-20-06. I've cleaned up the image a little more and added some light shading, just to give it a little more character. The background is a little more like the original after I cleaned up the tiny image I had of Earth. I'm especially proud of the new details on the Ion Lock-in Cannon muzzles. Still a work in progress - when I'm done, I'll post a non-desktop image like the original.

I remember sometime around 1980 when the "Comet Empire" season of Starblazers ran I had already been drawing versions of the Argo (Yamato) and evolving them in my own style. I was amazed when I first saw the Andromeda how close it was to one series of drawings. It's had a special place in my heart ever since.

For my next trick, I'm going to build one of the models as it was meant to be. (I've got a total of 3 - one purchased in the 80s from a shop that specialized in RPGs, the other two I spent a fortune for on Ebay.)

I myself am a fan of Captain Harlock's Arcadia. I built a the Model kit of the SSX green one and was able to get a die-cast version of the blue one (which is renamed Deathshadow in some series)

That ship just kicks ass ^^

The first time I saw the Andromeda on Starblazers, my jaw dropped. She was the second most beautiful starship I'd ever seen (the movie version of the Enterprise being the first at the time) I've even written an explanation in my fics for why the America looks so much like the Andromeda.

This is true. Both are very beautiful starships, as well as the America.

But a very important question I must ask... Does she come with cupholders? lol
